I certainly haven't seen anyone on the 223 thread advocating for walking in their shots or the need for more magazine capacity. I doubt that many on here aren't hoping for a one shot kill, but it's strange to not want to be ready for a fast follow up.
I told a friend I was selling my 300 win mag yesterday and he asked me why I was selling the perfect elk rifle? I said it sounded like he needed another elk rifle like the one I had for sale 😉
My first time hunting Idaho (and the West) was a central Idaho unit that had several airstrips. We hiked in several miles to camp. The the only hunters we saw rode by on horse back, and gave us funny looks when we told them which drainage we were heading for. They were going about 5 miles past...
Sorry for the long response. Since beginning to read the thread I've started building an 18 inch 1/8 AR and have a 16.5 inch Ruger Ranch on the way . I'll be taking my wife out to get her first deer this season and can't think of a better set up to build good shooting fundamentals and keep her...

The point you make about looking at our past selves as ignorant is a good one. It's easy to go with the conventional wisdom, even if you haven't thought about it critically. I'm sitting here thinking about why it is exactly I have so many .30 caliber rifles...
Wish I had taken pics of the entrance. But no it entered the ribcage behind the shoulder. If you zoom in there are actually two exit holes. I still can't quite wrap my head around that exit, as two friends also used my rifle and ammo on that hunt and the damage on their goats wasn't nearly as...
All things (including shot placement) being equal, 3 or 4 blades should equate to more blood than than 2.
I went down the foc rabbit hole and have been shooting 2 blade single bevels (grizzlystik) for the last 3 seasons. Around 600 grain total arrow weight, 70 lbs at 29.5 draw. I have...
I know the appeals will drag on and on, but having just applied for a marginal unit full of checkerboard I'm getting excited! A guy can dream! Good news no matter how long this takes.
A buddy and I carried out a whitetail on a pole in college, ended up spending over an hour in a Rhodo hell. I swore never again, but a few years later I killed one a few miles from camp with no pack. After dragging a hole in the hide, we did the last mile and a half or so on the meat pole...
I ended up finding a Tikka Roughtech on sale in .308 and went with that. Also ordered a Dead Air Nomad, which comes in at 6.5 inches. It puts my overall length a little over what I was looking for, but it kept me under budget. I suppose I could cut the barrel down on the Tikka if I find it too...
