I didn’t do anything in the way of trick moves when I got those numbers, but obviously the more consistently you can operate it the better. If I had a silver bullet I’d say so. They do all respond a little different, so playing around with different throwing techniques (and weighing as you go)...
100% on the COAL, the big advantage of the ARC being how well it fits in shorty mags.
I wonder if you couldn't pop the follower out of the mag, and use an empty case wrapped with sandpaper on the underside of the feed lips with the mag assembled? I'd have to try it to see if it'd work how I'm...
After taking apart a 223 mag and modding it to accept a longer COAL, I probably won’t go that route again. It sucked to do, and the mag never behaved reliably either.
There’s a write up somewhere online from ~ 10 years ago I followed, best of luck if you try it.
I never did. I actually got the factory 3 rounders to work 98-100%, and have just been running with them.
Hope the Waters works well for you, if you think about it I’d be interested to hear your thoughts when you get some time on it.
Thanks guys, I'm taking notes. I've been leaning towards a 22 GT for my next 22 cal hunting barrel. Seems like it should be similarly behaved as a 6 Creed based on capacity-to-bore ratio. 6 Creed is about as aggressive as I like to get, I've never been a giant fan of the real fire breathers.
You’re very confident, but I’m uncertain why as you’re clearly wrong on any level I’d measure it at. With all things being equal (bullet type, barrel length, optimal powder selection, comparable pressure) the 22 ARC is ballisticly slightly behind in every way.
A 6 Creed won't clean up the chamber of a 243, so you'd need to set the barrel back a bit to make this work. It's more involved than the 22-250 -> 22 Creed punch out.
In my limited experience, I don't love the AI actions overall, but they do seem to work correctly. Agree that the Impacts are easier to run, but not unbindable either.
I can run a Zermatt fast-ish, but on something like the charging bear drill I'd probably give up .1-.2 on splits I bet...
I've used Bighorn/Zermatt TL3's for my comp guns since 2017. They bind more than most if you try to run them like a Tikka. When I first got one it took me a lot of reps to adjust. I can't do it wrong now without trying. They still have a unique feature set I appreciate. I don't know if I'd...
"Permanent" isn't as permanent as it sounds. All the commonly recommended epoxies I'm familiar with will release with heat. Don't know about the black loctite there.
I've had a pinned-screwed-epoxyed (not just bedded) rail come loose to the tune of 7 moa. I ended up off paper at 100...
People do bed rings or rails for perfect contact, but that isn't what this thread is about. The idea here is to glue them together to strongly reduce the chance that the action-rail interface ever shifts, aiming to eliminate a potential way to lose zero.
Not a 'smith, but I wouldn't want anyone cutting a throat on a rifle of mine without dialing in the barrel to be concentric to the bore. Seems way easier to do so with the action off. If I already have a gun otherwise disassembled pulling the action off the barrel takes maybe 2 minutes.
The...
For most hunting situations at most hunting distances, I can't disagree with you. If you're testing the limits of reasonable hunting engagements or shooting competition it starts to matter. As a guy who shoots competition regularly, adding a step to check my level and adjust is probably a 1 to...
We'll have to disagree. On a flat range or surrounded by level and plumb references, sure. In common hunting terrain, people I know who use levels all day find themselves guessing wrong regularly.
I don't think using a level is the be all-end all, but I think consistent use will increase...
I'd recommend practicing with it built into your shot process until it feels wrong not to check it. It will take a lot of deliberate reps, but if you shoot at distance regularly (like a PRS match) I think you'll find your wind holds get way more consistent. Lots of people like the Send It but...
Yes, that is the AVERAGE of those groups vs the true population. However, the error bars on what an individual group will give you get ever larger as the round count gets smaller. There's no free lunch, the higher the level of certainty you want, the larger your sample population needs to be...
