Just copy the discontinued 3-12x44 LRHS. Bonus points if you can build a sub-20oz version w/ ED glass, without giving up durability & reliability. Maybe add illum for guys who want it.
I'd buy several. There is basicly nothing currently being offered that occupies this niche.
While I didn't set out with the one pack goal, this is pretty much where I ended up. Way back when, I was fortunate enough to demo a Paradox Evo prototype, and liked it enough that I bought a 6300 when they were available. The Paradox/SO frame just carries so well, the bag design is so light and...
If you shoot any kind of volume, especially premium or match ammo, I think it can pay off quite quickly.
But I do agree with many of the previous posters, it's a tough time to get into the hobby. Availability is sparse, and prices are high.
I used the 147ELD with great results year before last. 127LRX performed fantastic last year. Ima try out the 139 Scenar for myself this year. Not that it’s much of a mystery, what with guys like Pat running up impressive sample sizes already. :)
I hunt with a pair of 8x42 GR HDs. My hunting buds mostly use Leica Ultravid HDs and Geovids. I've spent a fair bit of time comparing our different binos over the years, and still hunt with the GRs. :)
I hunted with a BDC ret for years, but am definitely in the same camp as Lawnboi now. It’s easy to memorize Mil drops for ‘quick’ holdover type shooting, if needed. And yet have the option to be much more precise with dialing if time allows.
I’ve had both the 3.5-10x40 and the 4.5-14x40. (both models are built on the same tube.) The 10x is a decently usable scope. I did not care for the 14x at all. Not as user friendly, with a fussier eyebox.
That said, I don’t own any of either anymore. None of them tracked worth a spit. They...
In theory, a guy could import them. PRF will import scopes for $50/unit. Between our weak dollar, and the import fees, the sale price on the scope would have to be pretty good for it to be worthwhile.
Get a different scabbard. ;) I've been a user of the FXII 6x36 for years, but have almost entirely moved away from them. The SWFA, etc. aren't as streamlined or light, but have other upsides that make it worth adapting systems, IMO.
Many of us go to different BM/magazines to increase OAL...
Myself and a few hunting/shooting buds have a bunch of the Burris XTR Sigs. They are built stout & easy on scopes while allowing additional inclination.
Other than keeping a pair of Salomon 4Ds in the rotation for 'easier' trips, I've been pretty much exclusively a LL mountain boot user for years. Mostly Hanwag Yukons and Omegas. Just keep them well treated with Obenaufs and hike until the soles wear out. :)
