Congratulations! Nice rams!! Feels good doesn’t it!!
You have me beat years start to finish, only took me 38 seasons, 1980 to 2017 with the bow to get a grand slam. I didn’t hunt every year but usually helped someone with a tag when I wasn’t hunting. 4 of my 5 rams were DIY (without guides).
I like 3-blade 1.5” mechanicals (original Spitfires)as I’ve had much better blood trails than with the 1.5” 2-blade Ulmer Edge..forerunner of the Sevr. Had great luck with the Spitfires….475 gr arrows going about 272 fps from my 65# Prime Rival….taken lots of black bears and a large polar bear...
I had the poorest blood trails of any head I ever used in +50 years of Bowhunting everything in NA the two seasons I used Ulmer Edge 1.5” two blade single bevel heads. That said they did fly great and I shot a grizzly, several black bears, elk, whitetails, black-tails and Coues deer with them...
We cube and shish-kabob a lot of steak meat from moose, caribou, elk, deer, sheep. Often let it sit in a marinade or at least seasoned for a few hrs up to a few days. Hot grill, drip melted butter over the top, cook rare or medium rare…do not over cook!
Had moose kabobs yesterday…tender and...
Favorites: Attack pants, Peloton 240 hooded jacket, Kenai hooded jacket, Chugach NX rain gear, belt, Superdown Ultra zip-off pants, zip-off Peloton 97 long johns,
I don’t need any of the noted items but use them a lot and would miss them as they all work well for me!
I'd call the Leupold GR 12-40 x 60 HD average optically with great eye relief if you wear glasses. Compact frame for the lens size and has decent armoring. Weight as you mention isn't bad. The 12X feature is great, but with 12X binos, maybe not as useful to you (I used it a lot). 40X top is...
They've taken care of me on a couple modifications I wanted, and the one part failure I've had over the past 17 years that I've used them. Good stuff and an even better company.
Arrowed my ram with Canol a mile high. Most of my hunting and backpack camps were at 4,500’ to 6,500’.
Did camp down on the river at 2,500’ one night though and there was a small ram down there.
Was not at June Lake with Lancasters but it is only around 20 some air miles from Canol’s base camp.
I agree with you 100% on the RPM with belts...seems my RZR runs about 3,000 to 4,000 RPMs whether I need that kind of power or not...and usually don't need the power it produces at that RPM. The high
RPM reduces engine life vs what a Honda style auto clutch/transmission unit offers.
As per the...
Some interesting comments above.
My experience has been a bit different:
I use a a 2012 RZR 800 50” model. Tow it in a 6’x12’ single axle cargo mate trailer that I camp in…(windows, RV door, insulated, etc). Towed with a F150 with a 5.0 l V-8, although I have used the F350 power stroke a...
As a point of reference, I bought my Leica Ultravid 8x32 pre-HD binos back in 2005. They are still going strong with zero issues ever! And I use them about a 100 days a year hiking and bowhunting. And still find no reason to upgrade them….19 oz, small, very good optics for woods hunting...
I had a Leupold GR 12-40x60 in both the non-HD and later the HD version. The HD was significantly better at higher power above 25X or so.
I sold the GR HD when I got the Swaro 20-60x65 HD. It was incrementally about the same jump better than the GR HD. Still use it 12 years later.

I never use a stabilizer for back country hunting….or front country for that matter. Got an archery super slam (#40 without one). Never wanted the weight, the extra profile, etc. Shot well enough without to keep the freezer full and taxidermist happy.
As I remember Randy Ulmer did the bulk...
G dog, both bikes were properly jetted for high altitude….10,000 ft. In fact when I sold the TL250 to a buddy that moved down to AZ with it…he fried the engine right away in the lowlands ans he had not rejected it back to factory.
For those that don’t know the Honda TL250, it has a...
Love to take photos thru the spotter to really count age rings and/or horn curl on a ram….or points on a deer, elk, moose, caribou.
Much easier for me to have a stationary photo to evaluate than a moving animal. And yes, in BC we have all the above legality restrictions that I mentioned...
I did not like my TLR Honda 200 near as well as the TL250 Trials bike. It was significantly heavier and to me underpowered at high elevation (timberline mining roads…about 11,500’). Didn’t handle as well either. The seat and lights were OK tho.
