As someone who has 7 35 cal + rifles there is no reason ballistically for big calibers other than regulations. Form has shown that 223/6mm can take anything in North America. 30+ cal just offer more recoil and worse bc. Part of the reason the regulations make you use it. Unless really heavy...
For a bolt gun I expect any of these should be hearing safe (under 140) for 1-2 shots. For the money, a AB 30 cal A-10 is a good choice, 7 stack, 10 oz, sub $500. I have one to run on my AR, but will admit I have not tried it yet. I also have a scythe and AB Raptor 375 10 stack. I really...
Download Gordon’s reloading tool and put in a few different loads and barrel lengths. It will give you an idea on what to expect. Then decide how slow is too slow for you.
This is a new/unfired barrel removed off a Tikka action to build a 7PRC. Includes Hornady dies and some nosler brass from a different 7 RM project. $100 shipped.
Wts, 22” Tikka prefit barrel, in 7prc with nip Hornady dies, $400 shipped. Build sheet is in the photos. Barrel was installed, 10 rounds to zero and removed. I found I just don’t like 7 mm magnum rifles and am putting a 25 cal barrel on it instead. Did not shoot for accuracy, just to get it...
The reflex also does nothing by itself. It’s the atf making up rules. I believe they took the same stance with endcaps. Hence AB will no longer sell caliber specific end caps.
Yet other manufacturers sell direct mount adapters and end caps. Makes no sense and seems quite arbitrary...
With the new regs in Iowa allowing 35 cal and up bottleneck cartridges, I had asked a similar question for 35 cal. My conclusion was that it probably won’t happen, by the time weight is high enough for good bc, they are heavy and recoil is stout. Twist is too slow as it’s designed around...
You are correct, water won’t boil any hotter with more heat. The fix is to cook longer. At 7k ft where I used to live, everything took longer to cook. Just adjusted cook times. Had to readjust when I moved to 900 ft.
This doesn’t address the hypothesis of using a heavy for caliber match bullet in smaller calibers. If the smallest cartridge used is a 270 win, Phil has never tried a 77g tmk in 223. How can he offer any input on if it works or doesn’t work?
This. Took a bit to figure out loading as it is different that the typical rack style. Also have to run the longest cycle to get the dishes dry. No heated dry. Quiet and works well. Would buy another.
The same argument again. The hypothesis is that a heavy for caliber bullet in 22 or 6mm will do the job in harvesting animal X. Lots of people argue other calibers are needed to do the job, yet few offer any examples of the original hypothesis either working or failing. You don’t disprove...
Marlin jam can be an issue, but it also can be fixed. It is a timing issue and there are several sites showing how to either bend the lifter or to insert hardened material if you have an issue. Btw the Henry is a copy of the Marlin.
I have a remlin Marlin 1894 and it was awful out of the...
The crazy part is none of the paperwork shows the reflex as the length listed on the form 4 is without the reflex. Also reflexes are not serialized, so unless AB keeps great records of which can has which reflex, there is no way for the ATF to know what you should have.
Other than being 35 cal, 360 buckhammer is basically a 375 win case. Problem with the 35 cal is rifles are not fast enough twist for heavy subs. Only way to up energy is more weight, in 35 cal, the subs from maker are just over 200g, same as a regular bullet. Only advantage is they open up...
