While this certainly can be a situation where 100 replies are 100 different answers, it's worth asking. What is everyone's preferred magnification range for an Alaskan Dall sheep hunt? Would you forsake some of your magnification for a lighter optic?
When mounting a scope on your rifle, what are your go-to tools?
Level, alignment/ lapping bars, a torque wrench? Are there any tools that aren't often used or included in kits that should be?
For shooting in the wind, many of us have developed a list of tricks to drill targets in high wind. The obvious option, like selecting a higher BC bullet to shrug off some wind drift, are well known. What are some of your favorite bits of windproof wisdom? Do you keep a quick reference for...
In the initial discussions had on here about bringing a backup rifle to camp, it seemed evenly split, with some folks bringing a second rifle while others opted for more gear. Expanding upon the topic (and not reviving a dead thread) for those of you who bring a backup rifle, do you select the...

We had originally considered asking about "Rifle Rests for Specific Applications," but in the end decided to keep the discussion more optics focussed (since we are an optics company). So instead, we wanted to know if you guys buy multiple tripods, sticks, window mounts, etc for your optics, or...
For this question, we are defining "academic" knowledge as learning more about marksmanship and your setup beyond sending rounds down range. It could be studying gunsmithing, for example, in order to make you a more rounded shooter and hunter.
While most shooters are “hobbyists,” others would...
Sure! While this thread isn't the highest profile for answers.
We've done our best to overbuild our scopes to hold up to even the most vicious recoil. When we say, the UHD has a recoil shock endurance of 1000g we are talking about G-force. For example, the bolt action .50s turn out about 500Gs.
Just about. While it's laughable when you look at it in those terms, it made sense for our team to release a lightweight version first and then an optic with the additional feature and weight.
SDHNTR posted our response from another thread that we had hoped to keep the FFP model lighter by not adding illumination. However, we are working on getting an FFP version with illumination out soon.
I want to start this topic discussion off with some self-deprecating humor. When I bought my first .22, a well-used Ruger 10-22, I decided it needed a scope. I found a scope probably from an airsoft gun and purchased the first set of rings I could grab at Academy. The scope was a 1" tube, and...
So to answer @SDHNTR as to why TRACT has an illuminated SFP scope in the lineup and not an FFP: The idea was to try to keep the FFP model as light as possible. There have been concerns raised in this thread and others about scope weight, which is valid regardless of the manufacturer. However, we...
