I will throw this out there for discussion: Some say because the state owns the wildlife, they owe NR nothing. Sounds logical. However, the NR funds a significant amount of the Game and Fish agencies. So does that entitle them to something, some say, in your opinion?
If you say no, that is...
I have an album where I put every big game animal we shoot, plus a photo or two from every trip. Add in some other special photos. I call it The Man Book. We also do a Christmas letter each year and I keep a copy of all those in the back. Pretty easy way to track significant family events...
Archery: 4 bulls in 6 years. All DIY Public land, general tag.
Rifle: 2 bulls in 3 years.
7-8 days hunting, unless I harvest early.
The years I didn't get one I have had opportunities.
There are very FEW guys percentage-wise that can take a 6X6 mature bull every year. There are WAY fewer that can do that on camera every year. I enjoy watching DIY hunts on public. I am fine with them shooting whatever they want, whenever they want. If they shot big bulls every time it would...
I have seen some people give the advice to "shoot on the first day what you would shoot on the last". To me, this is terrible advice. Now bear with me!
If that is what you want to do, fine! It is your choice and do whatever makes you happy. However, it would NOT make some people happy to...
MT Al,
FYI, Sitka is warrantied for life, so if you have another problem, send it back and they will fix or replace.
I started my Sitka collection in 2015. Not one piece is worn out yet. Not even close. I use it pretty hard on elk, muley, and antelope hunts out west and whitetail, turkey...
When I was elk hunting last year, my kids threw the goose decoys and their shotguns in the back of an old golf cart and drove it threw the neighborhood to get to the field my buddy had permission on. My buddy laughed like crazy at them coming down the road to hunt with him using flashlights as...
Another vote for Elknut. He has real elk sounds, his calls and then probably more important, what they mean and when or when not to use them. I have called in a lot of elk due solely to his content. The first one I shot with my bow was EXACTLY like he said. I swear that bull read Elknut's...
Patience. I was at full draw for 6-8 minutes (let down 3 times) for a bull at 12 yards. Thank goodness there was a thick bush between us. Finally shot him at 34 yards. But I was sorely tempted to creep around that bush! We all know how that would have turned out.
I have had outstanding customer service from Schnees. Top 3 ever in my life. I cannot say enough about their customer service. I also love their beartooth boots. Used them hard and they have performed flawlessly. I have 13 seasons on one pair.
Scheels ownership has down home family values. They really support conservation. I have had great service as a customer and my organization as a recipient of their charity. Great service inside their stores.
Polaris makes the full cab that is super nice, no dust, heat, air conditioning. The belt drive is a total non-issue for me. No problem getting a 6X6 bull quartered out into a Ranger. Should have taken a picture, but I didn't think of it!
I hope you get a lot of fun and use out of it, it sure...
Been using the stock ones on both pairs of my Beartooth. One my older pair (2008) I love them. On the newer pair (2017) they seem a little thin but still workable.
I replied to your PM and am willing to help and share everything I have. If you want to give a listen to me describe it on a podcast, check out Randy Newberg's podcast #129.
