Apparently being a resident is no better than nonresident. Drew 3rd choice archery deer and ugly red for elk and barbary. It's going to be one boring fall!
Elk, deer, barbary, bighorn solo and then pronghorn with my wife. Hopefully now that I'm a resident I will finally draw the deer tag I've wanted for five years. [emoji1696]
I have no idea what to expect with the changes to pronghorn and barbary.
I would have suggested one of the youth encouragement hunts in New Mexico except they changed the rules this year and no longer allow nonresident youth to participate. [emoji2959]
Between my wife and I we've taken six mule deer from the plains and desert and all have been phenomenal table fare. I'd even go so far to say I prefer mule deer over whitetail.
As Wingshooter and Hodgeman mentioned, I think the loss of hunting properties to development and ridiculous lease costs and rules is one side of the rapidly growing popularity of western hunting. I also think the economy has a large role as well. Obviously I don't hope for another economic...

Unfortunately I did not review this thread...
We were running around the Prairie Chicken areas. I hunted that Loco Hills/Maljamar area a lot in 2015-2016 and always found a ton of blues. At that time I hunted with my retriever and she understood the scaled quail game well. Now I have an English setter so we try to target only bobs...
Pollo - I should clarify, the quail hunting was in SE NM. I tagged along to Lubbock with my wife who had Dr appointments while I met up with a friend and we kicked around some our usual haunts. The pheasants up here are few and far between but better than the quail population. I have yet to see...
