Found this website that has state by state travel restrictions listed. Seems pretty up to date.

Saw NM has a 14 mandatory quarantine for everyone entering the state. Might...
I carry a cheap light tarp in my pack. I killed a bull a few years ago that died in hot full sun, I was glad I could pop up some shade real fast. I've also used it to lay meat on or quick rain/cooking shelter. Pretty handy for a few oz.

I glanced at a few SW units. There should be enough new archery tags for everyone looking at last years numbers. With people losing jobs I would be surprised if there where more hunters this year.

We're kind of worried about my wife's job so I'm not applying in NM and CO like I usually do. Hopefully things will calm down and I can pick up a leftover tag or otc later.

Looks like an moa is really about 1.047" at 100. So I guess the longer the distance the longer the discrepancy. Ill just have to do some shooting to verify poi either way. Thanks guys!

So I'm looking at getting a new scope on my 30-06. I'm eyeing the the Meopta Meopro 4.5-14 x 44 TT. But before I pull the trigger, I was looking at the max windage and elevation adjustments and if they are enough if I wanted to use the turrets.
The scope specs call say a max of 43 in/100yds...
I'm hitting where I want to hit. I guess I only see the arc of the arrow when the adrenaline is pumping. I dont have this issue when practicing at longer distances.
I never hear the impact of the shot either like some people, rifle or bow.

My two last archery bulls were longer downhill shots (~38 & 45yards) and both times my initial reaction was I missed high. Both were good hits in middle or lower 1/3 of the vitals. This year as soon as I shot I said to myself "Well shit... I blew that one" and then 5 sec later a crash and death...
I've hunted it the last 2 years. Bow in 2017 and 1st rifle in 2018. Just like most OTC areas if it looks elky and is easily accessible it will be crowded. But you can find secluded areas if you look hard enough. Dont be afraid to move camp. If you're not seeing fresh elk sign, move on.

This. I've been hunting public land in TX for the last 15+ years, almost exclusively for the last 6-7. Mostly wmas and coe land. I dont have trouble filling the freezer. You just have to learn a new game.
I also do try to make it to NM or CO for elk every year, just because I love elk and...
Alot of times they will hire a bunch of temp seasonal employees or contract groups like conservation corps or similar groups that are pretty much low paid student/recent grad interns or troubled teens getting there life together. Doubtful they would have enough full time staff to do the work...
Usually 5-7 for out of state elk.
Another 12- 20 local for deer/ducks/doves/etc. It was alot more before having a family, but worth it[emoji106]
