Anyone else think they miss high?

My two last archery bulls were longer downhill shots (~38 & 45yards) and both times my initial reaction was I missed high. Both were good hits in middle or lower 1/3 of the vitals. This year as soon as I shot I said to myself "Well shit... I blew that one" and then 5 sec later a crash and death moan. He was piled up 50 yards away, perfect double lung/aorta hit.

I've been bow hunting +15years and never had this issue. Maybe it's the longer shots or that I started shooting heavier arrows the last few years. Or maybe I'm just getting older...

Anyone else experience this?

I think it says you trust your shot process and are getting surprised by the shot.

I shoot a heavy arrow too and my bow is a fairly light carbon spyder. With that bow I get more movement after the shot. With my defiant, which around 1.5 pounds heavier, much less movement. I shoot both just as well, but I think the weight makes a difference in being able to watch the shot impact.

I'm hitting where I want to hit. I guess I only see the arc of the arrow when the adrenaline is pumping. I dont have this issue when practicing at longer distances.

I never hear the impact of the shot either like some people, rifle or bow.

My buddy just went through this this year. He swore he hit the bull high, but 2 weeks later I found his arrow with no blood on the collar or the shaft and just a little fat on the broadhead. I assume it was actually a non-lethal brisket hit.
