Any pack with no belt, but has a sheet/structure for decent rigidity for travel?

Mystery Ranch 2DAP. Framesheet/yoke sheet with a removable webbing waist belt. Great travel pack that can carry some weight fairly comfortably. I've been really happy with mine as an everyday/travel pack. Also has a laptop sleeve.

    Bighorn Judging Training Thread

What an incredible 6YO! Congrats! The mass isn't all that apparent until that side profile. Huge bases. Length looks to be around 34-35"? I would have under-judged that ram. Great example. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome ram! Yes that is a very similar looking sheep. You bring up a great point about the left ram… although he terminates “flat”, there is a good amount of air space between his face and horn which points to some extra length. Good catch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Bighorn Judging Training Thread

Thanks for uploading a photo! I think we can all see right off the bat those bottom 2 rams are a step ahead of the group. This also brings up a great point, judging a good ram is TOUGH when he is the only mature ram in the group. All mature features will jump out when he is surrounded by small...

Slik 634 users - removing center Post

I think between the center column and the other screw on piece under the legs there, it saved something like 3-4 oz on mine. I think the legs alone weigh something like 28-29 oz now. Factory is 33ish. Much easier to use for me without the column, it’s thin and aluminum so any height on it will...

    Bighorn Judging Training Thread

I have just about exhausted the World Wide Web for all resources about judging bighorns. There’s plenty of information on what to look for and how to judge, but besides a few resources, there’s not much in the way of actual photos of sheep with their respective scores, either estimates or actual...

Best of Both Worlds- Ballistic RF and Binoculars

Just received a pair of EL Range TA’s. First impressions are better than they were in the store which is saying something. Got a chance to take them this afternoon and do some shooting. Plugged in my rifle data (factory ammo) transferred the data to the optic and went rock hunting. I was...

Zeiss V4 Mounting on Tikka T3x

I just put that exact scope on my tikka with the Zeiss low rings, clearance on the rifle is fine but if I had to move the scope substantially forward or backward, I would have clearance issues with the scope contacting the pic rail. Leupold pic rail I picked up at sportsman’s. Sent from...

Kuiu pro bino harness size for vortex fury

Havent put them in a bino case but dimension wise they are very close to my Meoptas and they need 2 shims to fit in the large. Also with plenty of room width and depth wise for the "belly" of the fury. The XL is definitely XL. More for 50mm+ objectives, the new geovids or 15's.

    Rangefinder

As much as I don’t like to recommend vortex, they make solid rangefinders. I’ve had a ranger 1000 for years and it’s still returns solid ranges to 600 yards. It’s a perfect little archery rf. Leupold also makes a great unit. I would not hesitate to buy a leupold either. I looked at a sig this...

Best of Both Worlds- Ballistic RF and Binoculars

I think if I was going to get into shooting a rifle over 1k yards, I would definitely go with a separate, more powerful RF unit. The reality for me is, I have never looked at taking a shot at a critter over 500 yards and I have a bow in my hands as much as a rifle. With that being said, if I can...

Best of Both Worlds- Ballistic RF and Binoculars

I’d agree, the .coms are no slouch when it comes to optics. My understanding is the new el ranges apparently have swaro vision glass whereas the older gen did not. The ta’s edge out the leica to my eyes. Larger FOV, better edge to edge. Center resolution is pretty similar but the swaros take it...

Best of Both Worlds- Ballistic RF and Binoculars

I’m going to try the swaros, I got a chance to mess with them today and while I didn’t get to play around with the RF much, the glass was spectacular. You really forget you are looking through rf glass. It’s probably edged out by the NL but not by much. Biggest “sweet spot” of any rf I’ve looked...

Best of Both Worlds- Ballistic RF and Binoculars

Strap in, I am coming to Rokslide because I think if I debate this to my wife anymore, she’s going to find me a new place to live… I recently purchased a set of Leica 3200.com’s. Amazing rangefinder, easy programming, excellent glass(minus the far edges where things got soft). The ballistics...

Chromatic aberration in Binos: who cares?

I tend to pick it up very easily. I looked through an older set of vortex razors and it was all over the place. Very distracting and enough to push me away from them. To your original question, I think its something you can get used to, but if I'm spending any kind of money on optics, I don't...

    Swaro STS/ATS vs Zeiss Gavia?

Zeiss Gavia was underwhelming for me for the price. I ended up trading it in to build a set of Kowa 66s and have no regrets. I've spent some time behind the s series and the x series but only the 80/85. There was really no comparison between the x and the gavia, its a few leaps ahead. The s...

10x42 Binoculars for a new hunter

Understood. It is a tough decision but best advice I've heard is simple but absolute. Buy the best glass you can afford and go use it. If you can afford 1k, spend 1k and rest easy knowing you bought quality and wont need to upgrade anytime soon. Everyone I know who started out buying brand x...
