I use my onxmaps and phone for GPS, but always have my inreach mini on my bino harness. The inreach mini has served me well on many occasions. Only problem I have with it is that it is trash inside of a truck...
28.5 inch draw here, pulling 70lbs, and had a pass through on a moose at 75 yards with a 100g deep six iron will broadhead on the end of a 4mm FMJ. Short answer in my book is yes the broadhead can do it but it is entirely dependent upon your gear and placement.
Drew second choice, 4th rifle antler elk as expected. Going to be a fun season. Have archery speedgoat, elk, and mule deer (late season) tags in New Mexico and now a late season rifle elk hunt for cherry on top.
Good luck to everyone!
I have a few gift cards and discount codes for a store that are about to expire. With this in mind, does anyone have an opinion on which of these binos would be a better value?
Vortex Razor UHD 12x50 at $1400; or
Vortex Viper HD 12x50 at $250?
That is exactly what people think when booking. However, it's all relative. 4-5k is a lot of money for a lot of people. However, 4-5k is not anywhere close to getting a guarantee on being in giant bulls.
Good outfitters and guides provide opportunities. They aren't one pulling the trigger...
I am not an outfitter, however, here is the thing I tell everyone I know considering a guided elk hunt...
You get what you pay for. 320+ inch bulls do not grow on every tree. There is almost always a price correlation between size of elk and numbers.
The biggest problem I have seen with...
Just got back from Colorado. Uninsulated Crispi Idaho with a pair of sock liners and heavy merino socks is all I used. Was in a minimum of 12 inches of snow the entirety of the trip. Use the exact same boot, with lighter weight socks, chasing goats with a bow in August.
Just got back from 4th season hunt here. Was in a ton of elk, just didn't see age class of bull I was looking for. All elk were between 10-10.5k in elevation. A lot of people who treated this season like a traditional late season hunt ended up not seeing a ton of game.
Side note - saw...
Or just not have muzzle loader season overlap with archery season? 99% of the units have two weeks between archery and first rifle. Perfect place to put the smoke pole hunters, just like in New Mexico...
