8.6 Creedmoor...yes it's real. Also not that it is coming out this year, but I recently heard about Hammer's Absolute Hammer bullets. They are super interesting to me. Probably going to order some 178s for my 30-06 and 129s for my 260 AI
I don't let any meth monkeys get anywhere near my guns. And yeah I got the 1:7. I'm all about that fast twist life. Just ordered me some 62 grain Barnes TTSX on Midway...yes they have em so go snatch em up.
What are you guys shooting mostly? ARs or bolt guns? I had another thread asking about using tipped bullets in an AR that asked whether the tips sustained damage riding up the feed ramp in an AR that would cause them to break or or distort to where they effect BC and accuracy. Is that...
Man, I read that whole thread and it was quite interesting. Performance of that 77 TMK on large game is impressive. Unfortunately, most of the conversation in that thread centered around bolt guns, and I'm wanting to know about tips functioning in an AR. I think that lead fragmenting bullets...
Wow, I gotta admit I wrote this thread off because I thought it was sure to be a lot of Fudds poo-pooing the 223 as a big game round (which a lot of it is). BUT....Read it all from page 1 and learned a lot. I never had doubt that the 223 could kill big game, but I have been pretty impressed...
huh. Admittedly I wrote that thread off when it included elk, bear, and moose. I figured it'd just be a bunch of people arguing against one guy who thinks its a good idea to use a 223 on large game. I'll give it a look though.
Hi All,
I am putting together a new AR in 5.56 that will mostly be a SHTF gun, but I also might use it for some deer and pig hunting, or maybe even have my girlfriend use it for antelope. I am looking at the 62-70 grain TTSX and TSX bullets for hunting loads, and I am wondering if the tips on...
Very interesting. I've seen the Heym and always thought it was innovative. Anyone snag any pics though before it was all taken down? I'm late to the party it seems and can't find anything.
If you want to get more velocity from a shorter barrel, you need a bigger bore. Look to something 338 cal. Also, unless you are sticking with 30 cal, you are looking at a rebarrel, not a rechamber. And finally, to rechamber without a setback on the barrel, your new round needs to be bigger...
So far I have really liked it. The one thing that is kind of a pain is that as you zoom in and out, the image goes out of focus and you need to refocus when you switch zoom level or look at something at a different range. It's not a flaw, it is just how the kind of scope works. That said you...
Fellow PA boy here and if I were you I'd be looking at a bolt action 300 BLK pistol. If money is no option, the Q Mini Fix is unbeatable, but for those of us with a budget, you can buy a stock action with a 223 bolt face and there are a number of pistol chassis out there to add a brace to an...
Anyone know some good areas or outfitters for hog hunting around the Tampa/Clearwater area? My parents recently got a condo in the area, so I can use that as a hog camp of sorts if I can find a good place to go. I'd like the ability to hunt at night too with NV as well as the daytime. Any...
I just ordered the Sightmark Wraith HD 4-32x from Cabelas since I had a bunch of points and gift cards. From videos and reviews I watched and read I think it'll be pretty good for $500 bucks ( i got it for $300 so even better). I agree with weekender7 though, seems like most negative...
Sage advice in that last line there. I have a 260 AI that is a great rifle, but god damn is fireforming brass a pain in the ass. One day I will likely just rechamber it to 6.5 PRC. With today's multitude of cartridges, it's almost impossible to not find a SAAMI cartridge that suits your needs.
I agree that having slightly different bullets is more trouble than its worth. A single bullet will perform the same in either situation. If your hunting loads use expensive bullets that you don't want to shoot a lot for practice, what is worth it is working up a target load with the same POI...
I wouldn't rule out the 338 federal or 358 Win just yet. You'll have the best short barrel performance with those 2 sticking with the 308 base case. I have an 18" barreled 358 win that I love. With a 200 grain TTSX and 52 gr. TAC, i get 2562 FPS and can get out to 450 yards at Rocky Mountain...
I never said I expected it to be easy or good or to not see people. I just said I didn't expect it to be as crowded and difficult as it was. I've hunted general tags in other states and it was never that crowded, and like I said I grew up in a place where there are always lots of crowds...
