I use a Black Diamond Storm, I think its 4.25 oz w/ 4 AAA batteries. Been using that model for years for everything. Have used it several times all the way through the night hiking and cutting up animals. This past year used it hiking through the entire night with plenty enough juice to use it...
Youtube gets a lot of traffic but I can promise you google gets a lot more. I'm not singling you out for this thread, just merely making a point about observations and the fact the moderators don't even adhere to their own rules.
A simple experiment, go over to google and type in "caribou...
I grew up shooting WT's in the neck. Have killed elk and MD in the neck as well. Depends on the situation, but as long as the shot can confidently be made with a very high certainty, about the best shot there is as far as DRT.
.222/.223 and .243 have dealt an incredible amount of death long...
Exactly what I was referring to. I can't help but think the ridiculous wait lists for transporters and places isn't due in large part to rokslide threads naming very specific places.
I would guess because if you type in moose and caribou hunting on google, rokslide threads will pop up. The mods aren't about to stop that flow of traffic to the forum. Pretty hypocritical but not surprising at the least.
My old boss undid it several times. Water levels were always the issue having to shuffle dates around so they could float the whole park/bend. I always wanted to do it but just haven’t.
He personally much preferred the Devils float for the fishing compared to the Rio Grande.
Something I haven’t seen mentioned
practice shooting in your gear such as wearing your binos and rangefinder, pack as well if that’s a possible scenario. Even your hunting clothes to be positive nothing is too bulky or restrictive. You have to practice how you play, just like anything else in life.
Turkey are by far the best, they also allow for the most options especially since one side of breast is bigger than most other birds.
Quail are a close second followed by pheasant/chukar. After that its all a toss up for me but I enjoy them all.
This year I saved up a dozen or so ptarmigan and...
After looking at the other pics he has less mass than what it looked like in the first pic and I still don't see 9". My thoughts are 8-8.5" long and probably sub 5" on the bases. As I said though, I could be way off on my estimation.
Crazy long horns on that nannie.
By no means am I an expert, I just killed my first billy two weeks ago, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Score wise I have no idea. I would be shocked if he was 9" and I'm not seeing but maybe 5" of mass. It does look to carry that mass fairly well...
Net score before drying being broke on one side from falling
This is kind of what I suspected especially if they are allowed to get at least some age to them. I’ve always knows BC was the place for big goats but wasn’t sure if other places had consistently produced them or not. Thanks, I might...
Used a Niak this year for my first sheep hunt. Endured some serious wind, rain, and light snow in it, and it handles it like a champ. Used it on a goat hunt and it paid for itself the second night weathering a heck of a rain/sleet storm. During the storm while goat hunting, I shared it with my...
Goat is from AK and being a draw tag I would think the likelihood of getting one that is around that mark would be fairly common?
Seems the southeast registration hunts are hit or miss as far as trophy horn size?
Big Agnes rapide or boundary deluxe
If getting a hole is a worry, I’d be packing some sort of ground sheet/pad.
Assuming this is for a drop camp moose or caribou and not a sheep or goat hunt as those suggestions aren’t the lightest but they’re definitely comfy.
Recently killed my first goat. A "trophy" billy in my opinion, and a "trophy" to most hunters probably at 6 yrs old scoring 47.25". The billy mine was with was a little bigger but was inaccessible. I saw plenty other billy's that were around the size of mine + or - an inch or two. This has me...
I’ll be putting one of these on my next rimfire… they seem to be highly rated and suggested in the rimfire hunting community

Killed a Billy last week. Wanting to get it shoulder mounted but not sure if it’s even worth having a taxi try and work with it? If not I’ll just boil the skull and tan the hide into a throw or something. Goat fell about 1200’ or so, broke one of the horns and skinned the heck out of one side of...
