IIRC, these came out sometime back. I have been in contact with S&B via emails about an FFP version; they say it is in the works. I feel like all of the euro scope companies are offering a comparable model, and all in SFP.
Zeiss over Razors. Haven't looked through the Mavens so can't comment.
As posted earlier, I'd be looking through some Meoptas as well. Even the Optika Binos are impressive and are way above their price point.
Wasn't planning on it at the outset, but I'm on that path right now. Trying to decide on which action to stuff the 300 PRC in. Have a SS 700 on the shelf, but not thrilled about it. Might go X bolt OEM, or find someone to screw a barrel on one of my many old A-bolts. Or might go something else...
Depends on your recoil aversion and, closely related, your appetite for carrying heavier rigs.
I've killed a lot of game with various 300 mags. 338's, too. There's no doubt that a big 30 cal will put game down near and far. I watched a guy put down a huge bull elk this fall at 700 yds with a...
I don't disagree with your discernments on the matter. I do think that there's a large contingent of shooters and hunters who either don't know what they want, or at least have little clue as to why they want what they do.
Take weight, for instance. How many times do we read an arbitrary...
Maybe so for the majority of shooters. Not to be nit picky or marginalize your comment in any way, but I took the question as what we preferred as individuals, not what we thought the majority of shooters would prefer.
After posting, I thought about the fact that I have worked in carpentry for...
Good post. The internet is flush with false equivalency, especially so in the realm of reloading VS OEM ammo comparisons. There is always a cohort of reloaders quick to point out how their hot '06 loads are knocking on a 300 mag, or suchlike comparisons, as if the engineers who designed and...
I don't disagree with you on how much windage correction space is taken up on the crooswire of a lot of reticles. The Maven reticle in reference is one of the more common sense reticles available, IMO.
Look how many take up 8-10 mils, which comes at the opportunity cost of not being able to...
As stated, for me it depends on the reticle. I generally don't mind them, but I find that I don't really need them either, and if given the choice I'd probably leave them off, especially on a hunting scope.
Might just be my brain-eye coordination, and I understand that such a subject will...
I don't mention aftermarket or higher end brass availability as a necessity for use of one cartridge over another; instead, its more as a barometer for which cartridges will likely be around long term vs which ones will wither and become difficult to obtain components and ammo for after a decade...
To each his own, but I very much dislike shooting at game on more X than I need. A little X goes a long way for me, and I rarely go much higher than 10X, even when messing around at 1K+. Aside from loosing valuable FOV, I find too much X to be quite irksome when trying to steady up.
But I've...
I would disagree. Successful companies make what there is demand for. If there is a sudden surge in 6.8W popularity, high end aftermarket brass and a greater bullet selection will follow.
Such as it is, the 6.8W was up against a very popular size (6.5) with a large, well established bullet...
I should have prefaced my statement by including my history with trying to shave weight at all costs. I tried to get by with the lightest scopes and rifles I could assemble. Wasn't happy with the results. Had reliability problems with scopes and the field position accuracy just wasn't where I...
Still find it difficult to believe that a few ounces one way or another is such a decision point for some. I don't care to schlep extra weight up the mountain, either, but what's an extra few ounces?
A work associate of mine had 2 147's out of a CM do this during a competition approximately 5-6 years ago. Was witnessed by a spotter. Was a Savage OEM barrel. He reached out to Hornady and they told him it was due to a rough barrel and wasn't unheard of with the Savages. IIRC, they took care of...
