There's definitely a lot to it. Fire away on auto mode so you can learn how the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO interact. They're three of the critical items that will impact the exposure of your pics.
Tons of photography basics vids on YouTube, so I would just go thru a bunch of them. Then you'll find the ones that are focused on the types of photography you want to do, e.g. landscape, documentary, portrait, etc. No real preferences on my side, but Mark Denney has some good stuff on...

Agree with those saying buy two Kodiak canvas 10x14 flex bow deluxe setups. Two people per tent with buddy heaters. You'll have plenty of room and warmth.

I've been using a spot slicker by alpine products and it's the best I've found for a kowa 773. Not a custom fit but does the job - keeps it dry and crap off the lenses, along with some abrasion protection. I'm actually glad I didn't end up with neoprene.
