What do you use for backpack hunts?

I ordered a marsupial gear but now that it is here, I am wondering if I could DIY something lighter. I have also seen some peeps that just roll with a wrap in clothing in their pack.

I found a Swaro cover in the classifieds for mine at 1/2 price but you can buy some cheap Vet wrap at tractor supply and wrap it up nice with it.

Bulky but super light and offers lots of protection.

I've been using a spot slicker by alpine products and it's the best I've found for a kowa 773. Not a custom fit but does the job - keeps it dry and crap off the lenses, along with some abrasion protection. I'm actually glad I didn't end up with neoprene.

Old lady got me these socks awhile ago, for some reason she was less than impressed that I cut them up and tied shock cord to them.

Call me crude but it's simple and works well, most importantly quick to deploy and cannot get left on the ground at a glassing knob. I have toyed with the idea of buying some neoprene and sewing something up for the Gen 2 version.

With that said my STX has the Swarovski cover and my 554 had the Kowa neoprene cover. Not worried about a few ounces nor a few bucks to protect some costly optics.

It's about 3/4" thick. I'm not sure what it is. I think its a scrap of some insulation that came off an old aquaculture tank. That's super helpful to you I'm sure.
