Second the research, this is good. The only quibble may or may not be minor though, is that Barnes does NOT recommend the same minimum inpact velocity for all bullets within a product line, ie TTSX, LRX, etc. They have different recommended minimum impact velocities for many different bullets...
I dont wash my car. But as far as you know my undies are clean.
(I clean my guns even if I dont “turbo-scrub” the way some do…several of my guns are older and have worn bluing or softer steel, etc and are prone to rusting. My 1980’s remingtons will rust where bluing is worn if you leave them...
When you all say “shoulder” do you mean a joint like where the top of a humerus ie “leg bone” meets the scapula, or are you referring to a scapula itself ie “shoulder blade”?
Seems like those are very different thickness bones, so just wondering.
Re pass thru’s.
A barnes with a huge frontal area often stops under the hide on the far side. Not so often ime on deer, but have seen this on a couple elk out of a small total # of elk kills.
Theres lots of info on what it takes to get more penetration out of a frangible bullet—it takes a...
Amassi’s estimate seems good to me…if its more, you are paying for the convenience of not waiting or not having to disassemble and deal with the other parts.
Older second-focal plane scopes did shift zero as zoom was changed, although only a small amount. A decent modern 2fp scope wont shift enough that you could tell. Reticle hash marks will change value as noted above, but the center crosshair wont. Use on low power and dont worry about it.

A lot of the stuff around bc’s and some other stuff he says make me think he’s relaying info and doesnt really understand the nuances firsthand, but seems like a good place to...
Totally guessing here, I have no idea…but my guess is it has something to do with the illumination, which probably requires something other than the etched reticle itself. Is it an illuminated scope, and does the illumination work?
Re: waves. They order and ship them over in batches seasonally. Think about buying skis…99% of purchases happen right before winter…so all retailers get them once, right before they plan to sell them, and then they dont buy more until the next season. Guns may be less seasonal, but still def...
If its anything like powdered milk, corn starch, flour, etc it works well to put powder in cup, add small amount of water and stir with a spoon or fork to get a slurry, and only then add your coffee or whatever liquid you are putting it in. It generally mixes well without the “flavor nuggets” if...
My heart may still be black, but I like half and half or cream in my coffee. Yeah, I know. Makes backpacking tough, as I have never had an instant creamer that didnt taste like the bottom of the dumpster in the alley behind a seedy bar. Or at least what imagine that’d taste like.
All you...
Makes sense. A second piece cheek riser designed like the oem CTR one, but extending rearward to meet the spacer, could be useful then. These kydex cheek risers all have problems—either they slip or they require extensive “rigging” to avoid slippage, they arent smooth, they add weight where you...
I practice with lead 99% of the time, but been hunting pretty much exclusively with barnes ttsx, lrx and their solid muzzleloader bullets since 2017ish, so going on 7 years. Switched specifically for better terminal performance, which to me means dead within a reasonable distance with minimum...
Agree that where its a make or break thing I cant have a failure in without seriously impacting a trip, vortex isnt where I turn. At the same time, i have a number of vortex products that Ive been very happy with and they have been great to deal with. Eyes wide open here, and I will continue to...
Why not integrate the cheek riser into the spacer? It could be held on with it being built onto the spacer at the rear, with 1 vertical screw and a plug up front, just like the factory CTR riser…all one piece.
