A buddy of mine was having an issue re-zeroing his rifle after dropping it on a hunt. He asked me to look at it. The reticle in the scope appears to be a standard duplex, but it looks like there’s a thin wire wrapped around the vertical and horizontal cross hairs. Almost like twisted wire or barbed wire. He is going to send it back to leupold, but I am curious if anyone has seen this happen? This is a new one to me… I’ll attach a picture, hopefully the resolution after uploading is good enough to see what I am talking about.

I was under the impression the VX-5 HD had an etched reticle. It is odd in any case.

Totally guessing here, I have no idea…but my guess is it has something to do with the illumination, which probably requires something other than the etched reticle itself. Is it an illuminated scope, and does the illumination work?

From what I can tell, it’s a standard duplex, no firedot or other illumination.
