I have the Oregon Gunsmithing hinged floorplate on my Howa 6.5 Grendel in a Stocky's VG carbon stock; it is okay, but sometimes is really finicky to load and the last round tends to want to nosedive. I imagine these will be better, at least I hope so.
We shoot the 130 TMK in multiple Tikkas chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, great bullet and would be my choice of the ones listed. Load is Lapua brass, but any will do, really, 43.0 grain of H4350 with Fed 210m primers and COAL of 2.810" or 2.82", I can't remember off the top of my head, and am at...
Yup, at the muzzle on my Tikka, the 77 TMK produces ~1250 ft-lb of energy, but as noted is irrelevant. The bullet is an emphatic killer at the appropriate upset velocity.
A 140 ELDm out of a 6.5 Creedmoor is a very good choice for elk, and within its given velocity threshold for expansion, which has been discussed here repeatedly, 1800 fps or so, produces excellent results and wound cavities. It’s very shoot able and manageable. My sons and I have killed 25+ elk...
Thank you for the review. My son has purchased this spotter and it is phenomenal. Easy to get behind and superbly clear, with an image that is unparalleled. I have a Kowa 553, but am strongly considering one of these 66As.
A SWFA fixed 10 x 42 would work nicely on the 222, and is in stock for $299.00. The same scope would work on the 30-06, but may not be ideal. A Trijicon 3-9 x 40 Accupoint or Credo would be other alternativess, but more expensive.
That I do not know, as far as him being a dealer. As far as the trigger spring is concerned, I’d definitely invest in a trigger pull gauge, if you don’t have one. I’ve not found in multiple Tikkas, both centerfire and rimfire, that I haven’t been able achieve at least 2.5 lbs with the trigger...
I’d lean towards the BR4. I’ve had issues with multiple Sig rangefinders, currently having a 5k not range well in cold or fog/snow. It also tends to give erroneous readings compared to a Leica 2400. The Gunwerks products seem to be well received and robust.
Hi,
I don’t have experience with the Horizon Vandal, but do the Tikka 22-250, chopped to 18” and rechambered to 22 Creedmoor. A year ago that process cost $250.00, work being done by Karl Feldkamp at kampfeldcustom. Very nice work. I personally wouldn’t monkey with the trigger spring, as the...
I’m at 39.5 grains of H4350 with 88 ELDm with Alpha LRP brass and fed 210s. I’d say your starting point is spot on and you’ll likely have some wiggle room up in the 39-40 range.
Here’s another cow elk shot by my son from last Saturday, roughly 2400 fps impact, 6.5 Creedmoor, 139 Lapua Scenar, quartered towards, impact in front of left shoulder. No pic of off shoulder, but it exited. The cow ran for ~75 yards leaving a very prominent blood trail. No necropsy photos...
I really like the Kowa Genesis 10.5 x 44, they compare very favorably to the Meopta Meostar 10 x 42, but they lack the capability of being able to mount an Outdoorsman stud, which makes it a bit harder to use off a tripod. They are often a bit cheaper than the Meoptas, but a used Meopta Meostar...
I shoot the 88 ELD-m exclusively out of mine, a 1:8 twist Tikka 22-250 rechambered to 22 Creedmoor. Built it around that bullet with the intent for it to be my do all big game rifle, where caliber restrictions allow. A cow elk and antelope have both succumbed to the bullet, very impressive on...
The CZ 452 American is awesome, accurate and classic and I love mine , but the Tikka is my go to. Mine is set up with a TBAC 22 Takedown, Sportsmatch T035 rings, and a SWFA 6x and 16” barrel. My sons shoot high school rodeo locally and the national champions for both junior high and high school...
