Well that answers my one question if it is that tight going down the bore, then compresssion is probably not the problem at all. OK since it is that tight how do you make sure it is all the way down on the powder stack?
Nope! no hammer needed or wanted!
With this, then I would fall back on...
OK - I think you meant Hornady Bore Driver. When you are pushing it down the bore - how tight is it? Placing it on the powder with you weight is really a good thought. BH is sometimes temperamental in that if it doesn't feel pressure on the powder it sometimes will not ignite.
Is your ram...
You do not want to put anything through the "flash hole" only the "flash channel" Use a 1/8" drill bit to clean the channel. You might have a hard time turning the 1/8" bit in the flash channel, but it probably really needs to be cleaned.
What bullet and sabot are you shooting?
What size bit is that you are using? And as an added note do not put anything through the flash hole other than liquid or air. The flash hole errodes fast enough as it is.
Can not really tell but the bit looks small to me.
Once drilled clean you should be able to shot 10-15 shots without the...
0 failures is my acceptable rate!
I think I know that the standard CVA plug is really questionable with BH-209, but I really thought their BH plug was suppose to be a good plug. I am not a CVA person so I can not really tell you what the problem might be.
I would ask you are you hand drilling...
An added note!
Which primer may work the best and most consistent is really tied directly to your breech plug and the outside temps. Western Powders always recommended Magnum primers because they had no idea what type of rifle or breech plug your rifle might have. And their whole goal was to...
BH - simply easy cleaning method for me! Well - in fact same method for T7.
Uisng Blue Windex, B-Casey liquid 2-in-1 Bore Scrubber and Montana X-Treme Bore Conditioner
Works like a champ!
I believe there are two viable options!
The best is probably Triple 7 powder - but there is a learning curve and the Second is probably real Swiss Black Powder.
Both of these can produce similar velocities.
BH is less corrosive than T7, but T7 is not as corrosive as some would tell you.
The...
Blue Windex with ammonia is excellent for patching and cleaning.
For patching between shots use a slightly damp patch.
For bore cleaning use a wet pat patch.
At 30* you probably do not have a problem - so if they work for you - go for it. But, I would move to a hotter 209!
And again the design of the of the BP is a consideration to think about.
I wasn't necessarily talking about moisture - more about temps. The colder it gets the greater the need for ignition temperature. Remember BH is basically a Nitro Cell smokeless powder.
As you suggest - just cut and remove the red and install a new 0.060 green rod in the sight. Touch each with a clean hot soldering iron to swell the ends and you are done,
I KNOW that paper patching works well and there are shooters that swear by it, but I have never ventured that far into it. For hunting and hunting at the ranges I comfortable with (out to 200 yards) the simple thing I do work very well.
I used a couple of Rem 700's for several years they were really decent ML's.
At that time I was shooting T7 powder 100 to 120 grains and Nosler 458x300 grain partitions.
I did also try shooting BH 209 with a 209 ignition system installed
It really is to bad that Remington dropped out...
That is the sub base that I use with flat bottom lead bullets or even with any flat bottom bullets. The 400 LGP is a soft flat bottom lead bullet but appears to have a concave impression of the sub base after being shot.
In your Bull Shop order make sure you designate that you want the .503 - 400 LGP (Lyman Grat Plains) and I am sure you will get the correct bullet.
Sending a check with the order is Bull Shops standard procedure.
Also a few posts ago I did not designate CC #11 MAG caps. you do not want...
I really would encourage you to try the #11 Mag style cap or the Dynamit Noble 1075+ cap versus any Musket Cap. The seal on the nipple is far better than any Musket cap I know of.
I am not sure you can find a Kap Cover for Musket caps - I have only seen them for #11's
A Cows Knee is for a...
Take care and take the time to work back to walking and shooting.
Do you have a sitting shooting bench with rests so you can just relax and shoot?
I am fighting a really bad lower back - driving me nutz!

The inside diameter measures right at 0.587
I am using the 0.343N Williams fiber optic. and it does come close to being centered
The hood slides into the grooves along the side of the ramp and catches the small knubs in the grooves. Once I get every setup and sighted in - I do use blue...
