Anyone out there using using Triple Seven powder? How does it stack up to Blackhorn 209? Can’t find BH209 at a reasonable price so looking for an alternative.

I went w triple 7 powder (not pellets) and it does what it is supposed to. Plenty of recipes out there for it. Think it is a little slower but not as finicky.

Nothing wrong with triple 7 just needs more frequent cleaning than blackhorn. It's also not as picky on igniting as blackhorn.

I’m in the same boat for not being able to get my hands on any BH209, so I’m using Triple7 for my Co elk and mule deer hunts this year.

From my research you just need to clean more often and BH typically is a touch faster (150-200fps). I’m getting great accuracy with my TC Triumph with 125gr volume of Triple7 and the Boredriver FTX. I haven’t put it on the chrono yet but should be over 1900fps.

BH209 looks like it is starting to hit various online retailers here lately, for me I think it’s just a bit too late in the game for a change with the number of times I expect to get to a range.

Triple 7 is perfectly capable. If it weren’t for bh209 it might be the best in my opinion. The only pain is more frequent cleaning required. I’d have no reservations in using it, especially if you dont already have a bh209 load you like, I’d just go straight to 777 for now. Way cheaper and easy to find

I shot the pellets 100gr total and my gun drove tacks. Never failed me and killed everything I pointed it at

I’ve been getting great accuracy using 100 gn volume loads with some 245gn power belts. I need to practice with a heavier bullet for an upcoming CO elk hunt.

You can get 2lbs of 777 for what they're charging for 8oz of BH209 now. I think the new containers are 8oz instead of 10oz for BH.

Yeah. That’s what pushed me to try something different. The prices are ridiculous.

I use triple 7 in my caplock with #11 caps with zero problems. I use it in my inline also. I’ve never used blackhorn.

There are absolutely no flies on 777. You might have to clean a crud ring but no big deal. It always ignites which I can’t say the same for BH209. I’ve been using loose 777 for twenty years and it works. Cleans up easy with Dawn and hot water.

Blue Windex with ammonia is excellent for patching and cleaning.

For patching between shots use a slightly damp patch.

For bore cleaning use a wet pat patch.

After I get the barrel cleaned with these windex patches. I am going to run some dry patches through it and dry it. Then do I want to put a solvent/oil patch through the barrel after?

I won’t use any ammonia on my barrels. Use ammonia free windex or good old hot water and dish soap. Cleans easy.
