I can't tell if I'm just a lot bigger wuss about cold than you or you just don't hunt in as cold conditions lol.
I run the comet crew and leggings as a base in anything colder than 55 degrees. Absolutely love them. I layer wool on top of that depending on the temperature and finish off with a...
Nevermind...I see it's down that has gone through a water proofing process...
If I'm reading it right the Grumman has about double the insulation at the the same fill power.
Is the KUIU a little sleeker? @croben
Good, I'm not the only one who hates the color of the Grumman! LOL Not that it matters to me, I plan to wear a shell over it.
How windproof and quiet are they? Any difference in your opinion there?
It looks like the KUIU Super Down isn't actual down?
Thanks, I'm not too worried about the weight per se...especially with down vests where we are talking about very minimal weight differences...more so would prefer not to look like the Michelin man while staying warm :)
I consider myself a buy-once cry-once kind of guy.
Is the Stone Glacier better enough to justify the $150 more it's going to cost me than the Eddie Bauer? Is it warmer? More wind proof, quieter, more packable?
I see its 650 fill power vs 850 so seems the Stone glacier is probably warmer.
I am looking for a down vest that is low profile to layer under my outer shell (don't want to look like the Michelin Man). It should preferably be decent at cutting the wind, packable, and quiet....and of course warm.
Currently looking at the Stone Glacier Grumman Vest, so if anyone has...
So, I figured something out. I really like to use my airflow vest to hold some chemical hand warmers and keep me toasty on stand.
In the cold, I usually wear two base layers, a mid layer (or two) and a shell. I've found that if I layer the Airflow vest between the base layers and the mid layers...
That's a shame. I heard the brush pants weren't great so I never bought any myself. I don't wear button up shirts for hunting, just not my style, but it's good to hear an honest review.
Probably too late but can't get a much better mid layer than the Duck Camp Barnburner Hoodie in solid brown or grey. 95% merino wool, 5% spandex.
Its warm, comfy, stretches with your movement, is anti-microbial, and layers well. Built in thumb loops. It's so comfy you'll want to buy two...one...
No problem.
I have to say the airflow vest both disappointed me and impressed me at the same time. It is not as warm as I was hoping, but it was also much thinner and lighter than I expected. It does provide an impressive amount of warmth for how light and thin it is, but don't expect it to...
30% off everything sitewide right now.
I am tempted to grab another Barnburner Hoodie...you can basically get it for half price right now and it's the best mid-layering hoodie I've ever had.
