I use a FL Uncompaghre, a Patagonia nano puff and a Patagonia wool vest. The nano puff is orange so I use it quite a bit during rifle season.
Have purchased some Patagonia stuff recently. Must have missed a wool vest. Old garment or current product?
I am too interested in the kuiu super down ultra. Comparisons to the kelvin kite or FLI have the FL Uncompahgre as well and like it a lot. That said, I’ve been looking at the kuiu super down ultra vest and debating on whether I ‘need’ another vest.
Ag111I have the kuiu super down vest and have never found an application for it.
For stationary hunting (whitetail) it’s too loud
For western hunts with hard miles it’s not breathable
For wet hunts it’s not water proof and can lose loft
For cold weather hunts you will want a puffy with hood and sleeves
The only applications I can think of are early season archery day hunts with nice weather. It would be good for a packable insulation layer if you got an animal down and were out at night. Or, really cold temps where it’s worn beneath another puffy jacket.
I’m open to some feedback on this because it’s a nice piece, I just Can’t find a way to use it. I love vests but personally prefer to layer with synthetic or wind vests like the kuiu guide or peloton vest.
Ag111Yup pretty much. If I could do it again this would get the kenai vest. Much more versatile. Have the kenai jacket and it’s awesome. Can wear that thing in almost any situation
Thanks, I'm not too worried about the weight per se...especially with down vests where we are talking about very minimal weight differences...more so would prefer not to look like the Michelin man while staying warmyou need to look at the amount of fill- a garment with a pound of 650 fill will be warmer than a garment with a a half pound of 850 fill
3 oz of a 850 fill vs 3 oz of 650 fill will be a warmer garment
more warmth for less weight, obviously the fabric is going to influence the weight too
