Just to clarify, it’s not about the 3 oz of overall weight. An easy way to look at the warmth is to multiple amount of fill by the weight, use that number as way to compare warmth.

In the above example, it would be 2550 vs 1950. The poster was saying that 3 oz of 850 would be warmer

I have the Kuiu super down ultra vest and Stone Glacier grumman down vest. I find myself reaching for the Kuiu more often than not. I love the Stone, but I don't like the color of it. With that being said, both are awesome and I can’t say one is better than the other.

From September on I always have my puffy jacket with me in my pack. I only wear it when I stop moving or back at camp. I’ve found the vest is a great option to add a little warmth if it’s really cold while I’m moving and I’m still cold or stopped and still cold. I sweat a lot, but I’ve never found either of these vests to noticeably lose loft and stop doing their job. I don’t wear it as an outer layer if I’m going through thick brush or if it’s raining though. These vests compress down into little more than a pop can so the space they take up in a pack is almost nothing.

Good, I'm not the only one who hates the color of the Grumman! LOL Not that it matters to me, I plan to wear a shell over it.

How windproof and quiet are they? Any difference in your opinion there?

It looks like the KUIU Super Down isn't actual down?

Nevermind...I see it's down that has gone through a water proofing process...

If I'm reading it right the Grumman has about double the insulation at the the same fill power.

Is the KUIU a little sleeker? @croben

I think they’re both down, just treated. I’ve worn both on windy days and never felt it. I wouldn’t classify either as quiet compared to other materials, but not as bad as rain gear. The Grumman feels a little thicker, but it actually fits just a little tighter compared to the Kuiu and both are size large. I’m 6’2” and 205lbs and the large fits me well. I wanted it a little on the tighter side to help keep warmth in better. The Grumman is about 1-2 inches longer. The material on the Kuiu feels like it would be a little more abrasion resistant, but like I said, I’m never beating brush with these as my outer layer.
