As others have said, your crossbow, good broadheads and lots of practice are what’ll you’ll need to get started.
I haven’t worn camo for several years and I hunt from the ground quite a bit with a recurve…I don’t even wear camo for turkeys most the time now days.
I also use pillow cases for...
For hunting inside of 60yds I don’t think match grade arrows are necessary. I did some testing a few years ago out to 80yds with some basic hunter arrows and then some high end arrows, there wasn’t enough difference in accuracy or consistency for me to say the the premier arrows were better. I...
Nice work!
I generally resort to shooting squirrels on the edge of the yard because of all the seed ticks in the summer.
Sometimes the conservation burns some area, which kills a lot of ticks, those are good places to squirrel hunt in the summer.
Sit in a creek bed in the evening and your thermals will pull your scent down the creek, even if the wind is blowing the other direction. Gale force winds are an exception. I’ve done this twice to get shots on big bucks on public land.
I also use hickory pellets in a smoker tube for cover...
This. If you have a howl on your call, use that to locate some dogs and move in and use more coyote vocals to pull them into range. Pay attention to wind like you said and have fun.
I went through the same scenario looking for a 10mm. Glock was too blocky and didn’t point well for me. Sig fit my hand the best. Trigger isn’t great, but functional. Springfield would have been my second choice.
If I was going to get one just for hunting, I’d get a 1911. Sig or any other will...
Lots of good options. CZ 457 the flavor of your choice is a great rifle. Target and hunting options.
I do like the T1X but the plastic thread protector and bolt shroud were disappointing.
I've never hunted lions, but I'd use a .308 to make sure that thing is dead before it hits the ground...I don't want to be that close to a live cougar lol.
As others have said, the CZ 457 Scout is hard to beat. I have one that "is for the kids." I also use it frequently. It comes with a single shot mag adapter, so I picked up a 5-round mag for it. There are a lot of stock options you can pick up after he outgrows the Scout stock. or just add a spacer.
I run #9 Federal or Apex TSS out of a factory full choke in an 870. Nice patterns out to 50yds, but not super tight up close. I mainly hunt in timber, so 30yds is normal range.
