Archery Elk in unit 76 (colorado)

Do you plan on backpack hunting or trying to hunt from a base camp? Ive never hunted the unit but have worked fairly extensively all through it. I can give you some starting places depending on what type of hunting you plan on...

I'm not a trophy hunter. Where should I be looking?

Ive spent some time working in Units 79, 80, and 76 but never hunted them. 76 will take some years to draw but unit 79 and 80 should be extremely good odds. I would recommend 80 for opportunity and deer density, and 79 for better quality. The problem with 80 is that there is a ton of access...

    First year backpacking in

x2! This was the biggest and rudest awakening for me. Its hard to even sincerely high 5 your buddies when the task of packing as much of a mature bull as you can carry across several canyons back to the trailhead....and then doing it again until the meat is out. Be in shape and motivated, and...

    Tag stew x 6 years = frustration.

10-4. I've never hunted Colorado but have several buddies that do with mixed results...I hunted OTC in Idaho last year for the first time and had great success...into elk every day and 3 of 4 folks in camp came home with bulls. The other had multiple opps but was too picky. If you ever get...

    Oregon hunting partner

Thanks! Enjoying it so far...seems like lots of opportunity here to bowhunt for anyone willing to do the homework and hunt hard. I keep hearing the horror stories of no elk, no deer, too many hunters and too many lions but Im gonna stay optimistic for now! How was the eagle caps as far as...

    Tag stew x 6 years = frustration.

Yep, keep after it! All the sweeter when it does happen! Nothing like remembering the fletching spinning and disappearing into a solid brown wall....Just keep visualizing it happening, stay motivated and always HAVE FAITH. I probably missed it somewhere in the thread but where are you hunting?

I just moved here to eastern Oregon and can hardly wait to chase these elk around! Depending on the dates I'll team up with you. I'd like to learn some of the Eagle Cap country too. Shoot me a PM.

I have three points for mule deer in Nevada.

I would lean more towards Jarbidge if it is only between that and the Rubies...however, there is some sleeper units in the center of the state for those willing to do a little homework, and 3pts would generally be plenty.

    Hunting Nevada

I'll just add that you can apply every year in Nevada and opt to only buy your license if you are successful in the draw. BUT, if unsuccessful in the draw without buying your license you will not receive a point.
