    Wyoming Elk Preparation

I drew a south general tag this year, it will be my first time bow hunting Wyoming. I've narrowed down to a general area that has the most elk and highest harvest success and have been e-scouting it a ton. I already have a plan A of where I'm going to start and have plans B thru Z if that...

Elk Hunting/ Family Camping Tent Suggestions?

Another vote for Kodiak canvas and diesel heater. My Kodiak tent sets up super fast. Forget a wood stove, you gotta be up several times at night feeding your wood stove and it takes up a lot of real estate inside, plus dangerous with the kids. I went the opposite direction. I ran my Kodiak tent...

How do you balance shooting with fitness

Since you can't shoot often, I recommend getting a bow trainer. It's a metal tube with 3 bands, if you pull all 3 bands its about 100lbs. After every workout I do 3x10 reps pulling 100lbs and on the last rep of each set I hold for 10 seconds. I do this for both right and left sides. I also take...

    Beast Adapter for Holsters

I got one and set it up on a FHF fob, running my Glock 20, and mkc knife. It took some time to figure out the best way to mount my rangefinder since it's on the right side where my gun's grip is. I also used a safariland holster and had to drill an extra hole in it to be able to slide the...

    Sciatica?

I had really bad sciatica for a while, I did some YouTubing and found some stretches that made it worse! Basically anything that made me bend forward, exacerbated the pain. I finally met with a sports rehabilitation guy, and got a MRI, they found a bulging disc, and the exercises prescribed were...

    Things to Look For

Another thing to look for is noise, my MR beartooth was very noisy, creaking as I walk. Also lumbar support. My MR doesn't have much of a lumbar support leaving only the flimsy hip belt to keep the bag from sagging down while packing out. Required constant readjusting. My k4 solved these issues.

    Squeaky pack

I ran a mystery ranch Beartooth 80, and that thing was loud! I tried an exo k4, it's night and day difference. It seems typical for mystery ranch.

    Zulu6 worth it?

Yes. These are a game changer. I've got the same size, 12x42. I can glass with one hand if I want to. Imagine stalking in on an elk herd, I can hold my bow with one hand and quickly glass through the timber to make sure I don't spook any cows.

    EXO k4 or Stone Glacier?

No experience with a SG but I just got a k4 5k after running a mystery ranch Beartooth 80 for 3 seasons. Huge difference! It's much quieter, the lumbar pad fits perfect keeping the hip belt from sliding down when loaded with heavy weight. I also like Exo being a smaller US based company and...

Scouting a new area this year?

Unit I drew is 6 hours away from me in NV. I did a bunch of e scouting to get a general idea of where I want to hunt. I marked access points, water, possible camp spots, created hiking and driving routes, and marked possible glassing areas. I marked all of these with grey icons, meaning I...

    Any raptor F150 owners?

I enjoyed my raptor on trails, however I had to trade it in because it's payload was worthless, mine was 1k lbs, so me, and 8 bales of hay maxed that out, and based on that I couldn't tow my toy hauler or any other trailer. If you plan on towing or hauling it's not worth it. I got a f250 tremor...

Drew Nevada elk tag guide questions

I drew a 231 bull archery tag, although I prefer to DIY, y'all make good points about hiring a guide. I've contacted the outfitters in this thread. If I did DIY, does anyone have recommendations for meat packers?

    Montana nonresident elk tag

I chose the e-tag or whatever they call it, never got anything in the mail, but it was there in the Montana fwp phone app. When you harvest you "validate" it in the app. My taxidermist thought i was full of it when I explained to him I had an e-tag. Maybe your buddies chose the e-tag option.

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Awesome info, thank you! What are your thoughts on scouting? I plan to go scout a new unit I drew this year in July. It's an archery hunt, and I'm mainly interested in figuring out my access points, active water spots, and camping spots. Is it worth it to spend time glassing for elk during this...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

What do you recommend to do from 10am to 4pm to maximize hunting success? I've heard about mid day madness, but it seems like the wind may be unpredictable during this time, making a stalk high risk. I'm thinking if I heard a bull mid day, I would keep my distance until the late afternoon when...

    Electric dirt bikes?

yes, but its not worth much. In my experience, i've only gained 2-5% from long down hills.
