I shot bare bow limited for over ten years. Really enjoyed it, but wasn’t nearly as accurate especially over 30 yards.
My eye doc is a buddy. He laughed, said I made it longer than most before needing readers.
Thanks, never even knew such things existed, but I’m pretty sure I’ll steer away if I can. I’d be worried sick of light, rain, and dust / debris. I’ll definitely take a look at one tho.
I’m just getting back into bow hunting after a ten year hiatus (work and family). The first thing I’ve noticed is that both the peep and pins are considerably fuzzy now. I’ve tried holding about a dozen different sights at arms length and there’s really no noticeable difference. So, any...
We’ve got 5 moose. Two with 180 e tips (copper). Walked around in a circle and fell over. Two with 143 eldx. Longest 530 yds. Took a little longer, but still dead. One with a 165 sierra I think, maybe made it 50 yards. One mt goat at 200 with the 180 e tips purposely in the shoulder. Bang flop...
Thanks, but it’s this angle that has me perplexed. At longer range I’d center up and send it just to give myself the best hit odds, but at short to medium ranges do I aim in front of or behind the shoulder? Or am I still overthinking it and just center up and let it go?
I really like the idea of shooting match bullets and am currently working with 147 Eldms in my 6.5 prc and 225 eldms in my 300. This picture is what makes me hesitant. If I was carrying my 300 with copper bullets I’d aim for the red dot and send it with full confidence, but if I’m carrying my...
Well, I gave a buddy a great deal on the HOWA, so I’m pretty much RS indoctrinated. I’m getting the stainless 6.5 prc vertical grip and putting my maven on it. Just need a rock stock and a 6um rebarrel for the full indoctrination!
Besides the stock, which I’ll look at later, what accessories...
I currently have a HOWA in 6.5 prc and really like the rifle, but it’s a 1.25 to 1.5” gun no matter what I load for it. That’ll work for 400 yards or so, but I’ve already got plenty of guns in the safe that’ll do that. So, I was planning on sending it to the smith and sticking at least a grand...
I grew up in eastern SD. Not sure if you can stand the cold, but later was always better. When I was there the season closed Jan 1, but now it runs thru January. I think mid Dec would be your best bet. Crops will be gone for sure, maybe a little snow and possibly froze over sloughs. And best of...
Good to hear about all the Houstonians here. I’m out of Kingwood and like most here am pretty swamped with kids but manage to get out west once a year and trying to up that to twice a year. Currently going through the NM options and then on to the Colorado draw after that.
I’ve been on two hunts in northern BC with Talthan as well. We took two moose off of packs at 450, one at 400 and 330 offhand and one at 165 off of a pack. Two goats off of packs at just under 200 and one grizzly at just under 200 off of sticks. All 4 of my animals were taken at 3 power.
Not that it matters for you, but the 208 has been tested down to a 10 twist supposedly. Out of a 300 prc you’re going to have to get past 800 yards or so to benefit from the bc of the 208 and both are going to blow the same hole all the way through pretty much every hog in the world.
Heck, I’m sure there’s lots of decent “starter” scopes laying around in Roksliders safes that you could have for free. I’ve got an old Bausch and Lomb elite 3000 I’d give you, and soon to have a couple Nikons I’d give you as well. I’m sure there’s nicer stuff out there too that guys are never...
It says a lot when everyone who does it says they love it and would never be without it. Seems like the cafe-9 is the way to go, or has the UM DBM just not been available that long?
I currently have a rem 300 RUM at the smith getting a new barrel along with some other work. I’ll be shooting 215 bergers, 225 Eldms and a larger Barnes for a big brown someday. Since the rifle’s at the shop I’d like to maximize the RUMs potential, but is it really worth the work? I’m looking...
