You are correct...it is not your responsibility or obligation to fund/buy from anyone you think is charging too much.
That doesn't make charging full retail price or extra for customer supplied parts a rip off though just because you have a work around, that's all Im saying.
Thats the beauty...
The quote he got isnt ripping anyone off...its a bit higher than average, but thats retail business operation and capitalism at work....no one holding a gun your head saying you gotta buy tires there.
That online price you listed is notably cheaper than I can buy them from any distributor...
My quoted price on those same tires in the midwest would be about $1800 installed out the door including 6.5% sales tax.
Thats a bit high, but if your in Montana Im sure they are paying more freight/shipping to get them there to start with...not outside the realm of reason.
Thats at a roughly...
It won't be Cooper At3 unless you buy used or find old stock...that very awesome tire was discontinued.
Cooper was bought by good year in 2021...most offerings have been redesigned and renamed...and if you can believe it...quality appears to have gone down IMHO.
At3 was a great all around...
This is mostly accurate in the states and just 1 more of many reasons tires and many other goods have gotten so expensive.
With the exception of places like Costco/walmart/sams that still get "exclusive" tires not offered to the masses...that's a whole other conversation.

Best of luck...don't wait long. We just got the inevitable "our prices are going up xx% on this and that brand due to tarrifs abd materials price increases"...from all our tire vendors.

It's tolerable in the boot for a bit or laid out with ice pack, but it just hurts like hell most the time and Tylenol doesn't dent...
Just for perspective...you could have a quality reman engine and transmission installed, replace the whole AC system and entire front steering/suspension and still only spend roughly 1/4 the cost of a new similar replacement...options are fix it as it breaks and hope you come out ahead with no...
Knowing the type of business your in would help.
Some types of businesses will lean heavier on one or the other...some really don't require much of either...more just expertise, honesty and simply the ability to communicate effectively. Some good input above already.
