That's a great idea. The NRS raft straps I've used are tough as nails. Can get them in 1.5" width, also.

Zip ties and duct tape are man's best friend.

The way i see it is that you are gonna put some torque on that pole. Either get jumbo zip ties or run with the nylon straps. The straps should be stronger and are reuseable. Just as easy to use.

FWIW, I use zip ties at work on a fairly regular basis and in cold weather or if they sit out for just a little bit, they become brittle quick.

100% agree - be careful if it's cold, I've had them brand new zip ties fail in cold temps bc they get brittle.
