Zip off down pants

For a while under armour had a smoking deal ($100) on some pretty nice full zip puffy pants. Not sure if you can still get them. I also think the mountain hardware compressor pant is also pretty nice.

So you specifically call out down.

But...I just snagged some OR puffys which use primaloft gold insulation (IMO the best synthetic for warmth/pack ability) and they are pretty impressive. They were 50% off as well making them a bit cheaper than FL and others. Mountain hardware also makes some synthetic puffy pants too.

I believe feathered friends makes a down option that is full zip and their stuff is highly regarded (I haven’t owned any though).

RAB makes some, along with smaller companies like Nunatak, Western Mountaineering, Feathered Friends etc. FWIW, I ended up with the UA. Got them for $80 after the Active Junky discount. Just too good to pass up. Specs were pretty close to the Kuiu pants, for a fraction of the price.

Do you have the weight on the OR's yet? I can't find it on their website.

If it is something you’re not sure you will use a lot, get some M65 pant liners (long versions) for like $13 off eBay. They weigh 14 ounces.

I use them at night backpacking all the time. They have similar material and construction to a woobie.

I have a pair of Feathed Friends Helios. Awesome, and made in USA. For me strictly for sitting (stand or glassing). Paid $220 for blemished pair. Can't find the blemish.

I bought the Kuiu Super Down and those were a game changer. I run colder than most guys and these were what I needed to stay on the mountain.

I’m bargain shopping for sure. I don’t plan to use them much. I just want them as insurance for a late hunt this year. I haven’t needed a pair yet so they may not get used again.

I don’t because my scale is still packed (moving). I estimate about same as uncompahge pants though. Somewhere between 16-22 if I was a betting man.

I’ll weight once we unpack may be a bit.

I say go for the surplus ones then. They button on and off, which isn’t as fast or tightly sealing as a zipper, but still don’t have to take your boots off. I have worn them down mid 30s with P’rana Zions on and was fine with minimal activity (walking around camp but mostly sitting).

Several times I have almost bought expensive down ones on the classifieds or that UA sale, but kept reminding myself that these have never let me down yet. Did I mention they were $13 lol?

I found a 3rd party seller that had them listed at 17oz.

You can buy Primaloft ZIP side pants for $30 on Amazon. Built for US Troops and probably cost $400 to the service.
I have a pair and literally the only drawbacks are weight and packability.

And made in the USA! 😁

I picked up a couple pair of the UA while on sale. They are pretty warm.

Got a link or know what they called? I may be looking all over them, but I can't find them on their website.

I like my True Timber puffy pants, they are very warm. They are 3/4 zip though. My larges are 11.55 oz. I just ordered some tenacious tape to add to the seat and knees to help them live longer. Price is right too, can get them on Optics Planet for under $90:
