Is the rmg-h visible at 3x in a hunting situation?

I bet it is, especially given these comments by Form. I don't use night vision devices, so have no use for the RMG-H personally.

Yes. With compromises. The RMG-H reticle is that style done correctly.

A participant texted a chat I was in "Hope ya'll got in on the preorder today; these are legit nice scopes." So that's another check in the warm fuzzy feeling box for those that ordered.

I looked thru both scopes in SLC and was definitely impressed and made sure that I was able to get a couple ordered on Monday AM. This isn't criticism, just a question...

I really liked the THLR and that's what I ordered but my first impressions when looking thru the glass and my question for those in charge is: Why does the center dot has to be as THICK as it is? The box and posts do a great job of centering the reticle on the target already. I understand that it's a hunting scope first and foremost but 0.145 mils = 1/2 MOA which will pretty much obscure the smaller targets that I often find myself trying to hit for fun when shooting challenges with buddies or my personal KYL setup. (3" gong @ 500 and 6" square @ 1K yards--which I miss much more than I hit (especially @ 1K) but it doesn't mean that it's not fun to try!!!)

I kind of liken this to archery pin size preferences. A lot of guys prefer a tiny .010" pin for long range shooting, whereas I prefer a larger .029". I have no problem covering a target with the pin if need be. I've shot rabbits at 100 yards and my pin pretty much covers the whole body. Not an issue.

This is a VERY niche use case. There may be better scopes for that.

It's been said a number of times. This is a scope for killing game. Not for target shooting. The RMGH reticle would be better suited for that intended use.

I ordered the thlr, if I don't learn to like it I'm sure I'll have no problem trading it for an rmgh or selling and buying one.

My chances of getting out "west" are very slim in the next few years, if ever.

I'm going to buy one for sure when it happens, just want to get the right one.

And what are these "scope bumpers" I see mentioned?

I don't think you should get the TLHR reticle based on your use case. Get the other one, or get a SWFA 3-9 or fixed 6x if they ever come back in stock.

It's a balance in being big enough for fast acquisition in field realities (moving animals, low light, dark backgrounds, etc), yet small enough to be precise, especially at speed on magnification settings you'd be most likely to use on that live game. At night or low light, that dot is the only illuminated segment of the reticle, and it's exceptionally well-done: small, precise, no washout or excessive light. Just a perfect pinprick in the reticle.

I guess I'll be contrary and say that seems like best case scenario for the thlr reticle. Better seen in dark timber under low magnification with or without illumination. At 100 the dot is 1/2" and at 200 1". Doesn't seem like that would hinder shots at game.

Basically identical to my situation.
The first time I saw the THLR on 3x I was sold.

To me it looks just like a German #4 on 3x.
That combined with the illuminated dot looks to be an absolutely amazing setup for the woods.

I’ve hunted with scopes that have .5 and .7 MOA dots that were SFP
Even on the lower magnification they were definitely not too big for hunting. IMO.
