One of the most popular questions on the forums every year is what boots are the best. Its a tricky question to answer but I am going to do my best to break down the Zamberlan Thunder Pro GTX to see if they may be right for you.
Ill start off by saying these are the most flexible boots I have tested. The past few years I have wearing the Zamberlan 960 guides and the Crispi Shimeks. Both of those are stiffer and quite a bit different than these (so far). Right out of the box these boots felt very comfortable. My heel set nicely, no pressure or slipping and the toe box didnt seem too large (problem I have had in the past with other boots). First hike was a 6.5 mile weighted pack hike (35lbs). There is one hill that is about 250' of gain/loss in approx. 1/2 miles. Its nice and steep. The boots passed the initial test with flying colors on both the ascend and descend . Once I feel like I have an appropriate amount of miles on them in a variety of terrain with different weights, I will publish a full review. In the meantime, ask me any questions you have and I will keep this thread updated.
I will note that I ordered the Adeks first and had to exchange them for these due them being way too stiff for my liking.
Couple of points.
. Boots are a size 13
. I have skinny, boney feet
. Boots are really light - 56 oz with factory insoles
. Replacing the factory insoles with aftermarket footbeds, not necessary but I do it with all my footwear.
