Good thread!

1) frog fuel protein shots
-added 60 grams of very potent quick absorbing nano collagen to my day
- held muscle, lost fat, improved injuries

2)leupold ranging binocs 10x42
- excellent glass for price
-used them daily all year, love them over non range

3)seek outside silex 1 man
- stove jack
- no zippers
- light as a tarp
- sets off trek poles
- can squeeze 2 w/o stove
- awesome minimalist shelter
I so want to check out the Leupold RF binos. But... I wish they would add the pin technology to OnX in them like they have in their handheld RF. Common Leupold that would be a game changer! :)

1. Tricer panhead - Yes, it can't handle some giant optics well, but for 99% of my house it was awesome and shave damn near a pound off my tripod.

2. Cinnamon bears - I have gotten pretty bad with how little good I eat. These have been awesome to keep a small bag in my Waistbelt to eat periodically while putting in serious hiking

3. La Sportiva Aquelibrium LT - Now, I've only had these a couple weeks but they fit like a damn glove and are almost 1.5 lbs lighter than my Scarpa Kinesis GTX per pair, huge difference.
Any gummy bear FTW - I just prefer the Panditas Extreme Heat :)

Man I feel like this thread started slow and then built up a head of steam! Awesome things to read through. I am suprised by how many people listed the Garmin Zero and Sitka pieces. Def interesting. Happy holidays all! In 2025 I'm looking fwd to using the Rokstok and maybe just maybe some new glass. I'll do a separate write up soon of the Kenetrek Bridger High Boot (which I do like but does not make my top 3 list) and too what I like and dont like about it.

Peloton 240 - late to the party with this one, but finally picked one up. Really like it up here as we get a lot of wind and I wear it either as an outer layer when it is cool and windy or under a Arc'teryx shell when it get down into freezing temps. Liked it so much I bought another one for around town.

OR Wind Warrior GORE-TEX® INFINIUM™ Hat - warm, windproof and comfortable. Great addition to the toque collection. Wear it hunting or walking the dog.

Ocoopa Rechargable hand warmers - Amazon - they have come in handy when sitting in a ground blind in -25c. Drop them in the hand muff and when the hands get cold, stick the hand in the muff for a few minutes. Also, put them in a small bags and place them under the bibs and they will keep the lower extremities warmer. Lots of life on low, too hot on high! Plus they are standby charging systems for the phone.

Cheers

Theme here being ultralight…

1. Zulu6 HDX 16x42’s - same as the rest said and very light
2. Iphone 14 or newer with IOS 18 for free satellite messaging - ditch the extra satellite communicator weight
3. Fizan Compact 3 trekking poles - not for everyday hiking but when archery hunting when the bows in your hand anyways they just sit in the pack at a crazy light 5.6oz/pole. I paired these with trekking pole tent Gossamer Gear the One and they also survived a bull pack out without breaking. They will break at some point but at $70 it’s been worth the risk for the weight savings.

New to me 2024
Swaro, SLC 8x42, oh my goodness - night and day over my Steiner 10x50. Love the 8x

Light weight - Am#$% merino socks, my feet do not have moisture using bog waterproof boots for deer hunting, nor 80-90-100 degree working in the fields. I will never go back to other even heavier merino, 28 degree weather in a tree stand, I just put on two thin layers. Oh my goodness.

Badlands mag bino case - holds, besides binos, extra cartridges, extra charger and cables, cell phone, small lens pen, small multi tool (you never know).

Honorable mention, not sure on if it warrants a top three yet, the Aclima wool nets.

  • Criterion prefit shouldered barrels (Zermatt). Can order based on contour, cut length, twist, chambering. A stainless @ $395 + whatever I paid for muzzle thread cut. Fast turnaround, super accurate 🎯, and easy to load for. Bought 2 in 2024.
  • Garmin chrono. No pain, no brainer.
  • Winnerwell Ti Ultralight tent stove. Way smart!

1. Titanium suppressors (Diligent Defense Enticer S-Ti and Wolf Hunter)
2. Leica Geovid R 10x42 (Integrated RF binos are a big upgrade to the ranging and shooting process)
3. Stone Glacier Sentinel bino harness (Well designed, comfortable, modular)

Hey all,

As its the time podcasts are all doing their gear dumps and gear of the year I thought it could be interesting and informative if people left just 2-3 things they used in 2024 that were new to them and worked really well for them in their hunting scenarios. I mean I could go over many items I use and have used but thought it better to limit to just a couple new items for the prior season...

For me it was:
Darned Tough OTC Hunting Socks - why did I wait so long to try these? They are as good or better than advertised and are now my primary hunting socks. No seam, super comfy, not too warm, not too cold. I want to wear them every day!
EXO K4 pack (5000) - I've run a K2 3600 for many years and I was very impressed with the K4. The frame the most - it really distributes weight phenomenally well, I quite like their updated rifle holder, my only quible and its super minor is I wish the spotter side zip pocket was only on one side with an open top pocket on the other so I had the option of either style. Dang good pack and looking forward to years of its use.
Panditas Extreme Heat gummy bears - found these at a little store and they are my new favorite hunting snack and gummy bear. I used to be team Haribo Gummy Bear but these have as good or better chew and much better more realistic and more intense flavor. Add in just a minor touch of heat (they are not actually spicy) and dang these are epic good!

Look forward to seeing what others found were new kit that excited them.

Cheers!
For me it was

  1. Lathrop and Sons boots - fit, finish, materials and bomb proof. Can't get much done if you are not comfortable hiking to get there
  2. Stone Glacier 3100 pack - best fitting pack I have ever had
  3. Merino wool base layers - socks to hat and everything in between
