Your Elk Hunting Rifle

Defiance Tenacity SA with a P.B.B. prefit 20in. #2 profile barrel chambered in 300WSM on top of a Peak 44 Bastion stock. Trigger Tech Special set at 2lbs and Zeiss V4 6-24 scope.

My buddy had Altus build him a 300 PRC on a Terminus Kratos for this year, it turned out great! I am not much for the paint on the optic but it works if that's your thing. We sighted it in and tried out a few different factory loads ultimately landing on Hornady 212 ELD-X as the best overall performer. The ELD-X was the only sub 1/2 moa amongst the group.

I slapped together a 308/6.5PRC (both barrel/cal options) on a Zermatt Bighorn TL3. I am planning to run it as a 308 for this season. I have yet to get it out to see what it likes best, I am hoping it lands on the 168's or 178's.

Wow! Nice lookin setup

Never been on an elk hunt but I’m planning to use my Wyoming points in the next few years. I will probably take my 280Ackley Kimber Hunter with a Vortex Viper 2.5-10. Shooting Barnes 150gr TTSX

Christensen Ridgeline .300 Win Mag shooting 215 Bergers if I'm in open country or 180 Accubonds if I'm going to be primarily in timber topped with a Zeiss V6 3-18x50

I had a 300 WM built by RW Hart about 30 years ago. Hart barrel on a Rem ADL action and McMillion stock. I killed all my elk with this rifle. A couple Canadian bucks too. The best shots I ever made on game were with this rifle.

Have you tried any bigger loads?

I haven’t, this was the first one I tried and it shot great so I didn’t play with any others. I’d like to try to 168LRX but my barrel twist isn’t fast enough. And I know 150 Mono metal bullets will preform well enough on just about anything as long as they’re still moving fast enough to expand

Too many options in the safe, but will likely take one of the following:
- Seekins Element 6.5 PRC or
- Gunwerks Magnus 7 SAUM

I lugged around my 17 lb 338 RUM last fall and it wasn't too much fun.
