Your Elk Hunting Rifle

My first elk rifle was a Ruger M77 Ultralight in 30-06. I killed my first elk with it too. I have used 338WM, 375HH, and 54cal ML on multiple elk over the years. All worked well. My last and latest is a 338Fed with either a 270W or a 30-06 as a back up rifle.

Win 70 , w/ Proof CF 24" Deadair Nomad 30 can, and Leupold VX6 3-18. Shooting 300WSM - 180gr TTSX at 2950. Shoots like a kitten. If backpacking in Rem 700 in .308 Win

.270 Winchester. I use 130s for everything, either Barnes TTSX or Nosler Partition. Mine is a 20" barrel with a wood Mannlicher stock and wears a fixed 6x, so it's about a 2 MOA with factory ammo.

All but 6 of mine have been bowkills, but those 6 were killed with a (now) 40 year old Parker Hale .270. My wife is the rifle hunter in the family and shoots a Tikka .308. I guess we're old fashioned, but we eat a LOT of elk.
If .270 Winchester were a man:

I will be using a Browning Western Hunter LR .270 Winchester this year with a 165 Nosler ablr. Working on finalizing a load so I can hit the range a bunch this summer.

I've been really happy with my Tikka T3X Superlite in .308. Available ammo, factory southpaw, light albeit cheap stock. Out of the box when topped with an older Leupold I've been able to do sub 1" groups at 200 yards.

Hoping to get it threaded sometime soon but our local shops have delays all the time and I don't want it to affect hunting season.

This year will be a Weatherby 307 Alpine chambered in a 7prc topped with a Steiner H6 rifle scope! Good luck this year!

Tikka T3x 7mm-08.
Not sure on bullets yet, but shoots 120 NBT lights out over Varget and trying 150 Fusions and staball 6.5 once the wind stops blowing long enough for a decent range session.

Coming this summer, custom Tikka T3x 25-284 shooting 134 ELD-M and possibly 133/135 Bergers over H1000, Retumbo, or powder TBD depending on how it shoots.

My elk rifle has been the same since the mid 90s. .

1976 M77, 7RM 24” benchmark barrel, McMillan stock, Timney trigger. Warne rings and bases, NF NXS 3.5-15x50. 168 Berger VLDH, but also shoots the 140 ttsx amazing

I’ve replaced the stock, barrel, trigger, scope and rings.

Last year it killed two elk, a cow and a raghorn.
