You know it’s getting bad!

Hopefully a few more influencers can brag about chasing 49 and take dumb videos of themselves smoking cigars with a dead bird. As others have said the popularity and influencers are killing opportunities
Do you think 3 bird limit in Nebraska was good for the population? Or 5 in Alabama? Theres trees on 3.2% of Nebraska and 4.8% of Kansas. Bird numbers are expanding in many midwestern states with timber. Let’s emphasize habitat improvement, predator, and harvest management. Turkey hunters purchase more nonresident hunting licenses than any other hunters. Let’s do something about it instead of just bitching. Everyone wants to drop hammers, but few want to help grow em. It’s that time of year. Let’s set some fields and timber on fire!

These professors have some awesome information available for those who care

You didn't realize things were "getting bad" when you started living in Kansas???

Seems like that would be the wake up call, not when you finally get around to applying for tags...

When you can’t draw a KS turkey tag! Wow have times changed. I now have one point for turkey.
With all the turkeys up here I never considered traveling to hunt turkeys, but now I wonder if I am missing something. I guess I'll put in for Kansas turkey next year. Thanks for the heads up.

I wouldn't get too excited, the numbers are WAY down. The only reason I go is I have family up there and it's a good reason to visit. Limited public land in KS and mostly small tracts. Now if you can get some permission it may be worth it.

I was j/k. Thankfully tons of turkeys up here in N. Idaho.

I really don't get the love for the nuisance bird. All they do is shit on your doorstep and eat the cat food. Oh i forgot they fight themselves in your window. But they are fun to scare off of the cliff and watch glide.
Cat food......that's where you went wrong :)

Always amazes me how well non-native merriams thrive out west. Wish our easterns could take a page out of their book. Sage grouse for turkeys sounded like a good idea…

Killing tom turkeys in the spring doesn't do $h!t to the population. It isn't rocket science guys. Fur prices plummet, people quit trapping, nest raider populations explode, turkey populations crash. It is more exaggerated in states like Kansas and Nebraska because the agricultural fields can support so many more nest raiders due to the unlimited grain supply to feed the nest raiders. No bounty program, unlimited season, or begging by wild turkey foundations will replace $20 coons. I state that because we can whine and complain all we want but until fur prices increase, turkey populations don't stand much chance.
