You know it’s getting bad!

And I think NEB NonRes Spring Turkey tags sold out within mins earlier this year

Glad I don’t turkey hunt either of those states

I heard that, that’s what made me put in. These days I spend my time bear hunting the spring, but was planning a trip over during the archery season as a scouting trip for deer this fall. I guess that’s out.

One of the few times as a hunter I’m glad I live in California. They are like rats out here.

I don’t follow it but I know the numbers have tanked in recent years. I see them but not like I used to.

Nm has otc tags but we do have a few special draw areas for turkey. My brother has drawn it, my dad 3 times, two of my kids have drawn it. I can’t draw it and I’ve been trying for just over 20 years.

Population is dropping as popularity is growing. I love the wild turkey and everything they represent but if we don’t correct course we might turn the greatest conservation story in the past decade into the biggest failure. States have to try and manage it the best they can and unfortunately for many that will be limiting opportunities.

If we had the numbers we had a decade ago, we could support this boom in popularity. Unfortunately, we do not.

Lol, times certainly are. I was helping a new hunter apply for an in state Az cow elk tag. Sad when even a poverty unit took a couple years to be guaranteed. Hell, we have some turkey tags here that take over 15 years to be guaranteed. 🤢

Hopefully a few more influencers can brag about chasing 49 and take dumb videos of themselves smoking cigars with a dead bird. As others have said the popularity and influencers are killing opportunities

I arrowed a lot of turkeys over there. Was just a one time 2-3 day weekend kill two birds and be done with it type thing. Time killer. I was really surprised when i got the email today saying “sorry” . It Just seems funny to say you have a PP for a flipping turkey. I never thought I’d say that.

I feel your pain. Failed to draw in Iowa this year in zone/season with 70% chance. Their tag is only good for a short season and 1 spring gobbler and not cheap. To add insult to injury, you don't get a choice if you don't draw - they automatically charge you $60 for a preference point.

Though not like the good old days, there are still some real good spots here in NY for turkey. OTC turkey licenses good for 2 spring bearded birds and 1 fall bird.

My dad grew up in Kansas when you couldn’t hunt deer or turkeys because they basically didn’t exist…so I guess it’s all relative.

Frustrating though!
