Had an elk trip in NM where I needed to spend a few days acclimating to elevation, so used the time to do some predator calling on BLM lands. Using onX, I e-scouted openings and terrain, placing enough pins advance to hunt the three days I had available. It was quite a learning experience, as usual, not everything on satellite imagery is as you think when you put boots on the ground. But wow, compared to calling yotes in GA, they are abundant and hungry in NM. I averaged killing one yote per stand over 2.5 days, mostly hunting midday, 10am-3pm. What a great experience. What a shock too to call in this mountain lion to some mouse squeaks. I think I'll be headed back in off season just to do more predator hunting.

Lion are generally a tough call. The area where I live is being over run with lions because they're damn hard to find. Harvest numbers are no where near the allowed quota. Congrats on calling one in.

Thx. wish I'd known to buy an OTC tag. I had no idea, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience of him sniffling the tree and hanging around 3-4 mins trying to figure out what was going on. Just calling him would have made the trip worthwhile if I didn't get an elk.
