I ended up buying a xmid 2, ultimately it came down to lighter weight and less pack space because of the lack of poles. I’m gonna have trekking poles on me already so it just seemed more logical. If I was worried about stronger winds I would have probably got the mountainstarI’m in the same boat, having a hellofa time deciding. I love the weight savings and ease of pitch with the x-mid but freestanding tents are tried and true.
Did you get the solid version or regular? I honestly don’t know the difference, I’ll have to look it up. I’ve just seen a lot of videos/posts specifically referring to the solid.I ended up buying a xmid 2, ultimately it came down to lighter weight and less pack space because of the lack of poles. Solid, it prevents draft / snow drifts etc and still part mesh for condensation.Did you get the solid version or regular? I honestly don’t know the difference, I’ll have to look it up. I’ve just seen a lot of videos/posts specifically referring to the solid.
I’m mostly interested in the x mid as a spike tent. Tried to spike out everyday with my Jimmy Tarps tipi last year and gave up on that after day two. I also never find myself using trekking poles unless I’m hiking in, heavy, or get myself into some overly nasty terrain. You might find yourself wanting your trekking poles when you're miles from camp and they're supporting your tent.
That's kinda my point, if I'm packing meat back to camp or in F'd terrain I'm not in my tent and I want my poles. Just a consideration.I also never find myself using trekking poles unless I’m hiking in, heavy, or get myself into some overly nasty terrain.
Interesting. I've seen people say it's harder to get a good pitch than it should be with the x-mid.I’m in the same boat, having a hellofa time deciding. I love the weight savings and ease of pitch with the x-mid but freestanding tents are tried and true.
We had this issue last year. It was sure annoying packing meat and hide in the backcountry without both trekking polesThat's kinda my point, if I'm packing meat back to camp or in F'd terrain I'm not in my tent and I want my poles. Just a consideration.
That's exactly what I was trying say. I've got no beef with a trekking pole style tent as long as I can get poles for it. My trekking poles go where I go 100% of the time. You can get poles for the x mid I believe.

There's always tradeoffs trying be light.I've been doing some tent research and the Dyneema x-mid/pro 2 with 2 z-flick poles is still lighter than almost any other 2 person tent. I just don't like it's single wall.
I plan to bring my poles with me, the tent will stay guy’d down and when I get back to camp ill put the poles backThat's kinda my point, if I'm packing meat back to camp or in F'd terrain I'm not in my tent and I want my poles. Just a consideration.
I’ve got no hands-on with it but all the videos on the interwebs I’ve seen it looks super simple. Maybe somebody who has/had it can chime in.Interesting. I've seen people say it's harder to get a good pitch than it should be with the x-mid.
