Which would you choose in Utah? Curious to hear from those that have experience with both.

I have a mtn star and had both 1&2 xmids.
I think the xmid are fantastically built but I just don’t like trekking pole tents.
I cant get away from freestanding for 80% of everything I do.
The mtn star could be a little longer as im 6ft.

I've done a couple trips in the mountain star without much complaint. I'm 6'1" and it was long enough for me to avoid hitting my head / toes, but not by a lot. I got hit by some good wind during one of the trips, 40+ mph, and it held up no problem. I thought about getting the x-mid, but after looking up some reviews I think that it wouldn't be worth the upgrade. The x-mid has better headroom which would be nice because that's one thing I wish the mtn star had more of, but it's also fussier about how tight and perfect the pitch is according to reviews. If you're on steep terrain I'd go mtn star, but overall both of them seem like excellent choices.

I’m in the same boat, having a hellofa time deciding. I love the weight savings and ease of pitch with the x-mid but freestanding tents are tried and true.
I ended up buying a xmid 2, ultimately it came down to lighter weight and less pack space because of the lack of poles. I’m gonna have trekking poles on me already so it just seemed more logical. If I was worried about stronger winds I would have probably got the mountainstar

Did you get the solid version or regular? I honestly don’t know the difference, I’ll have to look it up. I’ve just seen a lot of videos/posts specifically referring to the solid.

Solid, it prevents draft / snow drifts etc and still part mesh for condensation.

I love my x-mid. Based on my experience with other Kuiu products, you made a good choice.
