I am going to mount my talleys rings on my hells canyon tonight. I noticed that the rings are mounted different in every picture i look at.

is there a proper way the rings should face? some have them face each other, some both forward, some both backwards, some facing away from each other. is there a proper way or it doesn't matter.

posted two pics, one showing them both facing back, and the other showing facing away from each other. Thanks

Well that’s an interesting observation.
I mounted mine with the ‘L’ facing towards the muzzle. I can’t say if this is right or wrong but what I can say is that after at least 250 rounds down the barrel in my 300 WM I have had zero issues.
I will be following though to see if there is an optimal way for them to face.

I wondered the same thing on mine.
Commonsense (at least to me) says- the wider you grab the scope - the better. So the offsets facing opposite each other, would accomplish that, but... is the scope where you want it? In the top photo, the front ring reversed would mean the scope has to move further away, so in that case, I'd leave the front the way it is, but I would have revered the rear one, for a wider grip.

*Tip on mounting rings to that gun, the rings are rounded on the bottom and there is enough bolt hole slop to mount rings out of square.
*Use a level, Level the gun.
*Level the rings to the gun so all are parallel.
*Tighten, recheck.

the wider the grip would mean that both L's would have to be facing in, right?

L _i
like that

This would be the best option if your scope will fit. Some scopes have a short tube/mounting length so you might have to flip the rings around.

Even on the browning website all different. Most are both facing backwards or both facing in

Like said above, depends on how much tube length you have. If you have enough length to get the eye relief/head position you need, go with the most "grip".
