I posted this thread last month asking about the differences between the lower cost versions of the X-Bolt 2 to the nicer ones. I've handled the Speed 2 since and loved the bolt, trigger, finish, and overall rifle. It was a bit of a risk on getting the Composite Special because nobody local had one to handle and I really hoped it was the same fit and finish of the Speed 2.
I ended buying the X-Bolt 2 Composite Special LR SPR in 308 for $687 before transfer fee. It has an 18" stainless threaded barrel and a far more premium polymer stock than I was anticipating! It's got a ton of glass in it, and is extremely rigid and straight. The barrel channel is close to the barrel but perfectly even on both sides and doesn't touch with a bipod mounted.
I had to triple check everything after getting the rifle because it just says "X-Bolt" on the receiver, box, and paperwork. I thought I accidently bought an original X-Bolt for a few minutes. It is an X-bolt 2, but doesn't say that anywhere, LOL.
This gun is a far more premium sub $700 rifle than anything out there! It has a aluminum bottom metal (trigger guard and magwell), an amazing trigger and very smooth bolt. Bolt opening and closing are 60° but MUCH easier than the Ruger American 2. Every round fed smoothly and the magazines are extremely easy to seat and load. Normally I find a few things to nitpick about a new rifle, but I would have been very happy with this rifle if it were $1200.
I've been buying everything I need to reload for this, but found I could buy the cheapest Winchester 150gr PSP ammo for not much more than buying new brass so I bought 150 rounds to get the brass and have plenty to sort. I shot 60 rounds today with a crappy setup (portable shooting bench and 8x scope) and after sighting in, I had 0.8 to 1 MOA groups with the last 50 shots. I was shooting pretty fast so the barrel and can were blazing hot and I got one flyer (2" away) out of the whole batch.
I've only shot my AB A10 on my AR's (it does excellent on those) so far, so this was my first time shooting it on a .308 caliber cartridge. I shot a few without hearing protection and I'd say it's definitely hearing safe, it was quite pleasant (about as pleasant as supersonics can be). About as loud as a 16" 22LR rifle, much quieter than a 22LR pistol.
Total weight (rifle, Talley scope mounts, Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8x36 CDS-ZL scope, AB A10 7.62 Suppressor, Claw sling, empty mag): 8lbs 1oz.
Box velocity for Winchester 150 PSP: 2775 FPS, Chrono Velocity with 18" barrel: 2571 FPS.

10 shots, 100 yards, 8x scope (black dot is 2"):

5 shots, 100 yards, 8x scope very hot barrel:
