Looking to try and do a combo muley and antelope this year. Trying to find a decent unit with only 2 mule deer points. Go Hunt has lead me to think that unit 70 may be my best option. Has anybody hunted this Unit for muleys? Any thoughts from people who have spent time hunting this area? Thanks!!

I hunted there a few years back with an outfitter. Lot of mule deer but mostly on the small side but the outfitter kills nice ones occasionally. They hunted all public. Every body who had Antelope tags killed good bucks. It was my first antelope hunt but they said it's an above average antelope unit. Lots of game around. Hope that helps .

I hunted it in 2015. Lots of local pressure from the east and north. Most of the good deer I saw in camps were killed by guys that scouted them well in advance and shot them the second legal shooting time ticked by on opening morning.

I found better hunting coming in from the reservoir side. By better hunting, I mean fewer people. I saw deer every place I went, but turning up a better buck was challenging. I shot a decent 3X3 on day 4. What I did see were some big elk, but that is a tough unit to draw for elk.

You will want a landowner chip, and check out private land access on the south side.

Deer densities are low and too kill a buck of any size you will be investing some serious time unless of course you are very lucky but i wouldn't count on it

I've been in the unit elk hunting and saw a fair amount of deer. I actually saw a lot more elk than deer. I saw a couple decent bucks but they both were on private land. There are a lot of roads on most of the public so it sometimes is tough to get away from the crowd. I can't remember the timing of the deer season but remember there are loads of cow elk hunters in the unit. With all the hunting pressure the biggest bucks and elk tend to get pushed onto the Q Ranch which is a fairly large chunk of the unit. If you are going guided there is no way I would pay an outfitter to hunt public land. If he has access to private than you ought to have a lot more fun with less hunting pressure.

If anyone responds that it's a good unit, it will no longer be a 2 point unit. That's the problem with threads like these.
Less pressure off G and H lol.... it’s a GREAT unit. No I’m JK.. I’ve never been. Just being a smart ass. :)

20 years ago it was a very good under the radar unit with some very good bucks .It was also available as a second choice to nonresidents. I cant rember the winter but a little more than 10 years ago they had a bad one along with 82. That along with a steady increase in pressure it has never returned to what it was. I spent some time scouting it along with other areas around it the past few years. Overall i was pretty disappointed with the exception of a few decent pockets.
