Why do you suppose the draw deadline for NR elk is 1/31 and the draw doesn't happen until mid may?

It's my understanding that the drawing date was moved back to allow WYGF to conduct spring population surveys and have the commission set LE quotas off those numbers.
Despite the late draw date, outfitters wanted Wyoming to be the first western big game application of the year to help gain/retain business.
That could be the reason for the proposed increase in application fees from $5 to $20 for residents and $15 to $75 for non residents. I would prefer they just raise the tag price. At least with a tag you are going hunting. If they are one of the first application deadlines, the everyone will apply and they will get all of the non refundable fees. If the deadline was later the they would not get those fees from folks that drew in Arizona, NM, Montana etc.
Hmmm. I wonder how many people will notice that change. The Commission made some changes to the elk proposals, check the regs and see if you need to modify your apps folks.
I'm not sure the reason matters, I doubt WY, like any state, gives two cents about NR's. Primary role is to look out for residents. Heck of a place to live if you are a hunter. I've only ever hunted WY once on general elk. I'd hunit it every year if they'd let me. Beautiful and great hunting.
Noted and agree but we are talking about Cheyenne, not Denver. Apples and mangoes. Or maybe better stated, elk steak and tofuI bet the residents of Colorado would disagree about their fish and game dept caring about them…

Love it! And to be clear I love CO hunting. I'll be at 13K early SeptI don’t disagree. I admit, I take a bit of pleasure poking fun at the granola munchers dictating policy in CO…
