Wyoming is nuts !!!

Outfitters booked out to 2033, still going to conventions to drum up business, is what is wild to me. Why would you waste your time/money on such a thing? Maybe other species aren't booked up? Otherwise I'd take that as a sign to avoid such an outfit. Who can commit to things that far in advance?

Trust fund babies skewing the hunts
Or people who have worked hard and saved, or forgone other luxuries.

If the market supports the pricing, it’s because there’s enough demand at that price point.

If I can’t or don’t want to pay, that’s fine. Hunting is an optional hobby for the overwhelming majority of Americans.

Do I think some of it’s silly? Sure. But I also think Lamborghinis are silly. If people wanna buy them, that’s their prerogative.

Correct. Most really good and ethical outfits won’t book 3 years out. And most of the best outfits don’t bother with shows. Some do just because it is a convenient way to stay in touch with old friends and support a good cause but many just book return clients and their word of mouth.

Some also go to the shows yearly to keep their spot reserved. It can be tough to get a booth at the busiest shows.

If you aren't growing your business, your business is dying.

If the guys are getting good bulls and can book 7 yrs out, then let em. It is not ethically or morally wrong to do so. Probably in a big point units anyway.

I feel bad for the guys booking what might be a once in a lifetime western hunt who get bashed for deciding what to do with their own money.

For some tags/units what NR have invested in just PP is crazy...10-20 years...hell they could probably DIY when they started buying points..now add 10-15 years, high BP, cholesterol, bad knees, hips, back, ect.
I live hand to mouth with my PP. Spikes, forkies, and raghorns better act according unless they want a free truck ride.

I don't think it's all about the money, convenience is my theory. Let the outfitter do all the work, show and hunt. Works for some guys. I've been on my fair share of outfitted hunts, and diy both work for me. You won't see putting money out for some hunt 3 years out though.

Also the more points a guy has accumulated the more he wants to maximize the opportunity so for some that means hiring the outfitter so that hopefully they will be into game and be able to find what they are looking for.

I have 6 points to burn now. mobility not what it used to be. when it's time to burn points, it's time, with cost being less of a factor.

My buddy will be the richest guy in the cemetery. guaranteed.

ok, you give a 25% deposit 5 years out. You can consider that money gone. You have 0 recourse 5 years out. Except to hope the outfitter is still in business and reputable.
Conversely, the outfitter has 0 recourse if you don't show up with no deposit.

It seems thats not the case.

The seven-year gap between paying the deposit and the outfitter's death is generally not a bar to recovery, as the "breach of contract" (the failure to provide the hunt) only occurs once the outfitter can no longer fulfill the service.

  • Statute of Limitations: Wyoming law provides 10 years for written contract claims and 8 years for oral contracts. Since the "breach" is effectively happening today (the day they died and can no longer hunt), the clock for these limits usually starts now, not seven years ago when you paid.

Whaddya mean you can't hunt after you die???

After *I* die, that's ALL I'm doing! -- Make up for lost time!

None of this sitting around playing the harp or the ukelele $#!+ for me!
