Wyoming is nuts !!!

ok, you give a 25% deposit 5 years out. You can consider that money gone. You have 0 recourse 5 years out. Except to hope the outfitter is still in business and reputable.
You can give a deposit for next week and they could take your money.

That’s the thing, you ether participate, sit out, or figure it all out on your own.

Alaska hunts are 50% deposit and 3 years out in most cases.

That’s just how it is, if you don’t want to participate, obviously there is enough people that do.

What is your success rate and average buck size on general season public land mule deer hunts?

Probably better that avg buck that killed on most outfitted hunts, that said I never hunted the general season. Every tag I ever hunted has been during an archery season.

That said, I unless you have a reason for needing an outfitter, to get into or onto land you can't access yourself I think it's crazy to hire one for mule deer. Especially if you hunt with a gun.

Mule bucks are way more difficult to find in October than they are in September.

Then hunt in sept....... and most of what I see killed are the unfortunately the first decent framed 4X4 or 3X3....like I said if kind of crazy your going to fork over that kind of cash to shoot the first 4 year old mule deer you see.

If thats what you'd accept ....just do it yourself it's not like you waiting on a 190 anyway

I've never paid to do it, but I think if you came out and hunted general rifle DIY, you would understand why some guys pay for a guided hunt. It's not so much about the animal you kill.

I go and been on more guided bowhunts then I can recall easily, several year actually ( I have three booked this coming year, plus the bow hunts I will be doing alone). I get it. And I if drew a tag in a place I knew that I most likely will never be drawn again, and I needed access couldn't get my boots on the ground, and I wasn't going to let loose an arrow unless a buck was 185ish plus....I puke a little bit in my mouth but I would write that check tonight.
But I can't see balking at the money a hunt costs to go shoot a run of the mill buck with a rifle, but If you dont want to do the work and you want do the hunt then you better plan of opening your wallet for other people to do some of the work for you. I dont see any point in bitching about it.
