I had a different experience than the OP. Bulls were bugling on their own the night before the opener. We and another hunting party were able to call in bulls from a half mile away. We had bulls answering locator bugles between 1030am and 3pm. Got the first bull we actually played with killed on Sept 4.

Right on! Western WY ? Eastern? Not that it really matters, I'm just curious and still driving!

Western. We were usually above timberline glassing down. Some bulls high in the open feeding features, some a little lower in the timber. We did see some bulls with cows, some loners, and just two still together. Also saw some cows w/o bulls. It was kinda rutty, seemed like that perfect pre-rut time where it's easier to get something killed.

Was in western WY past few days. Mornings were way more eventful than evenings. Followed a group of 15 cows yesterday with no bull with them. Saw several groups of elk with bulls but no rutting activity going on yet. Still pre rut phase. To hell with the weather, you need to be more excited with shortening of daylight, that's the rut trigger. Called in two bulls yesterday, passed a 5pt and the other caught movement from me and just turned and walked off, not spooked.

No kidding. I pack an extra can of fuel..my f150 has a wonky fuel gauge so it can make things interesting and put me into a situation like slick.

I think WY is going to be on fire this next week boys.

Was coming across Idaho. Walked a few miles to a Phillips 66, ended up working out. Haven’t hitched in a looooong while.

I thought the forecast for western WY looked pretty clear for the next week.. I guess it’s sposed to rain/storm this weekend?

Where were you in Idaho? What part of WY you headed to? Rained and hailed on me in western WY earlier this week, I'll be back over there this weekend as well. PM me if you'd like.

If anyone's in the big horns or Cody area and need's help of any sort let me know. I Iive in greybull, PM me on here if you want I'll have service till Saturday then a buddy comes for some doe antelope tags. After that though we'll be in elk unit 41 chasing cows and bucks.

If someone wants we can exchange numbers so I can be reached on my Inreach if I don't have cell service.

It looks like that weather front did not hit like was predicted. Bighorns looking clear at least.

Bulls screamed their heads off all last night in SW Montana. By 0600 they were done. I was camped close to where I hunt and had trouble sleeping last night with all the racket.
I’m now on the road to Colorado to help a friend with his bow hunt and to pick up my fourth season rifle elk landowners tag.
I’m at a hotel in Rock Springs Wy tonight.
I drove through Idaho and western Wy today. Really nice looking areas.

Bulls bugled all night. The moon made it bright day out. Elk shut down bugling this morning around 7:30 and were bedding down....
