WY ELK 3 points and want to go NOW....drop camp recommendations please!

Not getting any younger so want to hunt elk without the long points wait. Biggest bull in the woods not a concern, just want to be out amongst'em.

Can anyone suggest a good drop in WY where we can possibly draw with 3 points. Would consider high dollar application although it rubs me the wrong way....

There arent many outfitters in WY that do drop camps like you would see in Colorado. For some reason those permit use days; are not given out much by the board for an outfitter to use. So I would suggest researching an outfitter that can and will do them, and go from there.

I think one other reason there are very few in Wyo. that offer drop camps is that non-residents can not hunt the wilderness without a guide and the non-wilderness areas are often pretty accessible by vehicle or 4 wheeler, so no need to offer drop camps.

I agree there are not many outfitters that do drop camps. There are actually more people that rent horses in WY, but that is a whole other ballgame. I'm also in for General Tag in Wyoming this year. I'm planning to bow and gun hunt both. Hopefully just helping out my group during gun. I spent some time research drop camps, not much and honestly you have to face the reality of the business.

Drop Camps are never going to be put in the prime or event good spots, they will save those spots for guided hunters. We have done drop camps, yes we saw elk but I'm sure we were in a lower producing area. Also they all seem to put drop camps in the same area each year, might not be all bad, but it sure has it's down side.

Honestly, you might be better off to do your own research and try to find someone that will just pack you in with your gear in to a remote spot of your picking. That has limitations too of course.

I was looking and either Bivy Backpack hunting or maybe even renting horses to just walk in and out with gear and meat hopefully. Leading in horses is one thing, riding them is another. But you have to be ready to deal with horses in the back country.
